Berlin - Hamburg

Hello,

Taking a trip to Berlin in February with my friend. Just wondering if anyone has any tips for cheap tickets (slow trains, changing somewhere etc) for this route. Looking at the DB app the trains seem quite pricy for that route. I have a FIP card but my friend doesn't.

I'm getting Sparpreis at €29 on most services midweek, which is good value, and €19 on the slower InterregioExpress which takes the route via Uelzen (worth a short stop to see the Hundertwasser architecture). Doubt if you'll beat that unless you use a QuerDurchsLand ticket.

No, German fares arent normally discounted for returns, though there are a handful of day return fares on IC routes.

There are only 2 direct IRE trains from Berlin to Hamburg via Uelzen. The 8.02 and 17.01; otherwise one could also go via Schwerin. Every 2 hours with 15 minutes for change of trains.

For cheapness use the coach/Fernbus-runs ev 30 mins, several companies and as cheap as 8 eur/single, If prebooked and using it at slack times. Use fahrtenfuchs for complete overview-Dont know if its only in German.
