Hi does anyone know why the Bentham line only runs 158/156/150 instead of 195? It could feasibly run these, especially the 2 carriage ones, and I feel this would make the journey feel better

There aren't enough 195s to take over all of the 15X's routes, so some lines have them and some don't.

Because 195s were not ordered to operate on this route!

A combination of the 195 rough ride and stiff seats along with the poor state of the track on that route doesn't sound like a good experience

Same body design.... totally different mechanics and electrics. It would have to be a conversion from the older types of DMU. Probably at least a week and quite expensive.
It's a 2 day conversion course from 331 to 195.

.....also Skipton crews - who operate all the Bentham line services - do not sign 195s.
Or 150s, or 156s.

The 158s will be the last of the Northern 15x to be replaced and I suspect the Bentham line will be one of the last services using them, had many a run on the 144s on this line so the 158s are a massive upgrade on those. However a word of warning, the sprinter mafia on here are ruthless, tread carefully

I would imagine Skipton is a fairly large depot so wouldn’t be cheap to put all drivers through the conversion and then it’s keeping up traction knowledge if they are only used now & again.

I've not done that line from Skipton to Carnforth since the pacer days. What's the ride like with the trains used on that line now like with the jointed track?

Considerably better with the air-cushioned bogies on the sprinters, but a still a bit rough in places.... especially on the sections between Wennington and Carnforth which have bull-head rail on 1940s reinforced concrete sleepers.

Not good when you have a bad back especially between settle junction and carnforth, I'm currently on board 158796 now on my way to morecambe as I'm typing.
Also engineering works on the line valentine's week from the 12th Feb, spotted these posters at morecambe.

The thing with Northern is they do like a fleet re-shuffle to reflect changes in demand which is commendable, however the best chance for 195s on this line are when new units in the 15x replacement turn up and a cascade event involving 195s happens. There are 2 threads more suitable for the following but I will post it here as it wont have any legs elsewhere - 195s to run circular service Blackburn, Preston, Morecambe, Bentham ,Hellifield and Blackburn.

Looking at the poster, I see Northern are still reluctant to employ proof readers.

If the engineering works are also affecting the Skipton to Carlisle line, then having replacement bus stops for stations up to Long Preston & Giggleswick described as 'Towards Skipton' and 'Towards 'Carlisle' might be barely acceptable (but surely not difficult to change when copying the text from that poster), but apparently there are also two sets of replacement bus stops at Wennington, 1 pair before reaching Morecambe and another pair situated '...on Bare Lane...'
