I am soon to become a part-time station assistant at FCC, and was wondering what benefits would I recieve as an employee. Sorry if it seems a silly thing to ask.

You get the following:

Oyster PTAC to use on all LUL, LOROL etc...services within the London area.
14 Boxes which each box entitles you to 48 hours on any First train service.
Free travel at all times with FCC.

You didn't say if you were going to work on the GN or TL though?

Thanks for that info. I am going to on the GN route. I have also heard that other people are entitled to use the discount/free travel? I ask this because I have a girlfriend and wonder if she would be included.

How long do the 14 boxes last for? is that for a year's worth of travel? Do I need to wait 1 or 6 months?

Welcome to the Great Northern, if you're lucky enough to have MF as your trainer during your induction then you're in safe hands as he's the very best in the whole company.

Still, don't forget you can travel for free on all East Coast services in standard class at weekends and all East Coast services in standard class for residential purposes during the week between Newark Northgate and Kings Cross.

As to your missus, best ask at your induction.

I ask this because I have a girlfriend and wonder if she would be included.

Certainly at arriva you get travel for your wife and children, also girlfriend/partners are included providing you have been with them for so many years (i'm not quite sure how long, i've a feeling it's 2 years) you have to get a solicitor to sign a declaration for you however. I would imagine things are somewhat similar over at First.

Thanks folks, I can't wait to start working! Would be a shame that I may not be able to have my girldriend included in the reduced/free travel, so can't see myself using it a lot.

Also, a random question, does anybody know what day of the month is payday at First? I ask this because I start on the 29th of March

We get paid every four weeks, the last payday was Friday 5th March so should be 2nd April.

I am going to be at St Neots and Huntingdon. I got my contract through the post this morning and trying to make sense of it all, theres so much paper work to fill out

Ah, well not my local area but I go though the stations on my way to and from work with either FCC or East Coast - would rather use Grand Central but they don't stop at Peterborough....

Remember no matter how silly the question may seem to you, just ask as if you don't ask then you will never know.

The supervisors at Stevenage who you will be reporting to are a good bunch, any problems and they're always just a phone call away as to your manager, I can't comment as I've never had him as my manager.

The induction lasts three days and is usually held at Kentish Town which is just one stop away from St Pancras so is easy to get to from all parts of the FCC empire.

I know when I did my induction back in 2006, it was spread over a week and cover subjects as disability awareness, goals of FCC, customer service, a day out at Bedford learning how to put out many kinds of fires plus how to get out of a smoke filled carriage, health and safety etc...not forgetting how to use the PA to make a announcement of course.

Sadly no, accounting has never been my strong suit - a call to payroll at Cambridge would be your best bet, I don't have the number to hand but if you ask at the induction I'm sure they will give it to you.

I did not realise you got staff oyster cards. Perhaps i will ask my company (LOROL) for free travel on FCC in the LOndon area and see what they say.

Well it's a arrangement that TfL and FCC came to which gives FCC employees discounted travel on LOROL, LUL and DLR services, not sure if LOROL employees enjoy the same benefits though as I don't work for them.

Although you're more then welcome to ask about it but after speaking to a supervisor from LOROL, he said you still get the 75% Priv discount plus free travel in and around London anyway on TfL services ie Buses, LUL, LOROL, DLR etc...

We have been told that our Priv PTAC card is only valid on the above services and not on National Rail as unfortunately the PAYG system cannot cope with this and will charge you a priv fare.

Still, I forgot to add you also get free unlimited leisure travel on the Croydon Tramlink.
