Belgium: derailment in Mons

This morning, a freight train derailed in Mons, blocking the lines to Quévy, Quiévrain and Tournai. It is expected it will take several days to clean up the site as there is extensive damage to tracks and points.

No official word yet, but it seems to be caused by a freight car that did not have its hand brake correctly released. Pictures showing heavily damaged wheelsets have been published.

Serious damage to tracks and points. One track back in service from Mons to St Ghislain, and a reduced service reinstated. No service at all to Quevy. Ouigo trains to/from Paris diverted via Jeumont. Expected end of repairs for Saturday morning.
