Beginner to Train Sims - Advice Wanted

Hi Guys,

I see lots of posts in relation to trainsims and I've known many people to use them but I've never so much as read anything about them, let alone actually used one, so I was wondering what advice you could give for the beginner.

I'm not really so much interested in the really old historical steam and stock thats been retired from many years ago, more so recent stuff as well as the last 10-20 years but no more.

Was wondering if anyone could give me some suggestions of where to start.

well i supose the best place to start is the simulator itself
if you want the chance to drive practicly anything on almost any route then id pick MSTS as there is a great site http://www.uktrainsim.com/ that has loads of cool downloads on it and its free to register but you have to wait in a line

Then theres the other options Trainz and Rail Simulator RS is soon to gain more downloads but it may take a while for them to become avalible, RS is a great game very realistic and the graphics are cool but i find the route editor hard to master (on the points side of things at the moment)

Trainz is fun to play Very "Arcade" lke as the graphics and sound isn`t the greatest but its easy tomake routes and theres over 50+ trains to drive

There is also BVE4 its free, downloads are free and its the most realistic of thm all with AWS,TPWS real sound phot-realistic cabs and much more

it really depends on what your looking for in your simulator

There's a hell of a lot more than that.
On the DLS alone, just searching for UK locos and then UK rolling stock there are 3578 items, and that doesnt include all of the 3rd party sites and the stuff that they havent bothered to put the region in (so it doesnt show up in that search).

Just downloaded and installed BVE4 on Vista, next question, where it the best place to download mordern rolling stock, and routes?
