BeeNetwork senior bus pass +train, validity?

According to my research, this can't be used for "free" travel unless off-peak. However, Northern operate a peak-hours system between 4pm and (I think) 6.30pm inside Gtr Manchester, which doesn't apply to other TOC's I believe.
1. Can I use my pass for "free" during the afternoon peak?
2. If I can't, what if my journey is Bolton to Preston and I have a ticket from Blackrod (inside GtrM) to Blackpool around 4.30pm, and I want to travel from Bolton?

Thanks!

Just had a reply from BeeNetwork, yes, it's valid in the afternoon peak!

1) yes. Afternoon peak only applies to certain single and return tickets and the TFGM day ranger, not passes.
2) yes, train doesn't have to stop at Blackrod either..

For future, fares from Blackrod to Blackpool are generally identical to those from Bolton. If you buy from Bolton you have the added flexibility of being able to travel via Wigan instead of Blackrod which can be handy in the event of disruption/replacement buses. However if you split at Blackrod you must go via Blackrod even if that means a bus.

Must admit that bit surprises me, always thought on such a split ticket the train would have to stop in such instances.

So if I go Manchester to Huddersfield on a direct service that doesn't stop at the last station in GrtM (Greenfield) a ticket would still be valid from there to Leeds? If so I'll happily do that - but it does seem to stretch the rules a bit!!

It's because it is an area based ticket, which do not have to stop at the split station like it would if it was a normal split of e.g. 2 off-peak returns.

The Greenfield split would work, but it would prevent you from going via Todmorden if disruption makes that useful.

I usually split at Stalybridge (Bolton > Huddersfield or Leeds) so I can hop off the TPE return journey and catch the Northern from p5 (?) which avoids having to change at Victoria. Didn't know if I did that then the alternative disruption route wouldn't be valid, but if I had an ordinary Stalybridge > Huddersfield or Leeds return; and that direct route back was blocked, they would have to divert me by Hebden Bridge to Stalybridge - which would be routed by Victoria so I could alight there (or even Rochdale) and catch the train(bus) to Bolton?

The answer remains the same as when you asked on the forum in 2023 ;)

Time restrictions are dependent on the ticket you hold; trains aren't generically peak or off-peak. A GMPTE older person's pass where the £10 annual fee has been paid can be used on trains within the GMPTE area from 09:30 onwards with no evening restrictions.

In the event of a cancellation, the recent cross-DfTO ticket acceptance policy means that you're entitled to get to your destination using any reasonable route. Internal staff guidance has been that you do not need to observe split points anymore in such a case.

Note that this does not apply to missed connections or delays, so in that case you would still be limited to going via your split point.

What happens then if using such a combination of tickets, one being a zonal or concessionary pass, if travelling on an (Anglo Scottish) TPE service, which is usually "does not set down" (Northbound) or "does not pick up" (Southbound), at Bolton?

The same rule applies; there is no requirement for the train to stop at the split station when one of the tickets is zonal or concessionary. The fact that it stops to pick up or set down only is just a sidenote and doesn't affect the validity in this case.

The validity via Westhoughton is only really useful in theory if intending to use TPE services, as their crew nowadays only sign the routes via Blackrod or via Eccles & Wigan so you are never going to see a diversion via Westhoughton.

I thought that only applied if the ticket was from the border station (in this case, Blackrod) rather than just any station
I don't have the conditions in front of me but I think it's 14.3 that states the validity has to end and start at the same station?

Technically yes, but in practice it would be extremely harsh for anyone to try and penalise a passenger for having too much (overlapping) validity!
