Bedwyn in better standing nowadays?

Hi all

I am now able to reveal the 1833 PAD-EXD service will call at Bedwyn from 24/05/10, and will be Bedwyn's first call on an Intercity service, taking only 1:02 from London!

To supplement this, FGW are seriously considering a call on the 0548 EXD-PAD too, which is currently under investigation.

So does this mean Bedwyn is in better standing now?

Sorry, it's not the first call on an intercity serivice, the 0818, 1218, 1706 and 1806 departures from Paddington already call there.

As for Bedwyn being in better standing, i think so, it allows customers from Marlborough etc to travel west from Bedwyn straight away rather than doubling back as far as Hungerford/Newbury/Reading. I suspect the service west from Bedwyn will increase any way after the electrification to Newbury takes place, I reckon they will use the Turbos to make a London/Reading - Westbury service, calling at all shacks from Newbury. Still, it gives FGW something to shout about, continually adding services west over the next few years.

those services are operated by HSTs but could you call them intercity? I would say semi-fasts tbh...

As for turbos to Westbury, they are most likely to go to Taunton to provide a good frequency between WSB-TAU. Physical clearance of turbos is being looked at west of WSB.

I think it is a long time since Great Western was "inter city" its mostly outer suburban or third world regional now.

It calls Reading Newbury Hungerford before Bedwyn, faster than any of the others!
