Hopefully somebody can help me.

I want to travel on a season ticket from Nuneaton - Milton Keynes. However i have found that it is cheaper to have a season ticket for Bedworth - Milton Keynes. Strange as Bedworth is further away and requires 2 trains to anywhere except Nuneaton and Coventry.

Given that you can only get to Bedworth via either Nuneaton or Coventry is via Nuneaton a permitted route? reading the ATOC guide i think it says it is, but i'll be honest it is so complicated i may be making a mistake. Also would i be permitted to leave the station at Nuneaton and not travel onto Bedworth.

I only found this out cause we are looking to move house and Bedworth may be a possible place we might move.

Is there any number or email address you can contact to get written confimation?

Bedworth (BEH) is associated with Coventry and Nuneaton. Fares check below rule out nuneaton (NUN) but allow Coventry (COV). Milton Keynes Central (MKC) is part of Bletchley Group.
BEH-MKC: £24.50
NUN-MKC: £28
COV-MKC: £24.50

Coventry - Bletchley Grp is valid on map TV which does not allow travel via Nuneaton.

I'm not sure if via Nuneaton is the shortest route. If it is then it'll be valid

I think Bedworth-Nuneaton-MKC is valid by virtue of being less than 3 miles longer than the shortest route. Distances from the NRT:

Bedworth-Coventry-MKC: 50.5 miles (6.25 + 44.25)
Bedworth-Nuneaton-MKC: 51 miles (3.75 + 47.25)

The Northampton loop adds two miles, so even via Northampton both routes seem to be permitted if the fares check doesn't apply to (nearly) shortest routes?

You can travel via Birmingham on maps WM+TV and TL+TV

You can travel via Bedworth and Coventry on maps TL+TV

Good point - for some reason I thought Bedworth was further from Nuneaton.

To the OP, yes, a Bedworth to Milton Keynes ticket is valid via Nuneaton. You don't even need to bother with the Routeing Guide!

At what point in the Routeing Guide do you apply the fares check rule? I think Bedworth-Nuneaton-MKC is valid by virtue of being less than 3 miles longer than the shortest route. Distances from the NRT:

Bedworth-Coventry-MKC: 50.5 miles (6.25 + 44.25)

So it is. OP: Disregard what I said earlier, the ticket is valid from Bedworth to MKC via Nuneaton

Hmm interesting... when I visited Bedworth NRE didn't like the idea of going via Nuneaton and if I said that it only gave me single fares, costing a lot more than the Coventry route. So I assumed I couldn't. For that reason Bedworth-Nuneaton is an annoying little hole on my coverage map that I keep meaning to plug on Great Escape days but always miss due to coming home too late :p

Wow everyone answers so quickly. VERY impressed. :D:D:D

So last question is there anywhere i can email to get official confirmation.

I only ask as if it has caused a bit of confusion here , it might cause confusion to a ticket inspector one day, and i don't want the hassle of being accused of traveling on on Invalid ticket.

Also is there such a thing as "Travelling short" on a season ticket?

To get confirmation that it is valid would be very difficult. Whilst you are unlikely to run into difficulties with a ticket inspector with such a ticket, if you want to completely avoid hassle it might be best to buy a Nuneaton to Milton Keynes ticket that is clearly valid via both Birmingham and Coventry, and Bedworth and Coventry.

Also is there such a thing as "Travelling short" on a season ticket?

Yes. You are allowed to start, break and resume or end your journey at any intermediate station along a valid route.

Thanks.

BUT given that via Nuneaton is a slighty longer route (0.5) miles, does this apply if the train does not go via Northampton.

The Virgin trains currently do not, only the London Midland trains do.

I would want a ticket for both (NOT london midland only in other words) .

Sorry for all the questions but this could save me £400 and i don't want to get it wrong.

Not going via Northampton is the shortest route so it doesn't affect the calculation. According to Irish Dave above the Northampton loop is 2 miles so even going via Northampton (NMP) is 2.5miles longer than the shortest route which is allowed as it's under the three mile threshold.

Ask for a ticket routed Any Permitted to get Virgin (First from December) and London Midland.

Sorry all,

one more question.

If i had a any route permitted season ticket and took a train from Nuneaton to MK in the morning before any train from Bedworth had arrived in Nuneaton would my ticket be invalid.

Sorry if this is a really dumb question as bet lots of people travel from a different station in the morning to the one they go home to.

It would be valid. For all they know you came up on the last train the previous day.
