BBC series: Great British Rail Journeys

New to the forum so apologies if this has already been posted elsewhere, but what do people make of the new series going out this week on BBC2 'Great British Railway Journeys' (http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00pykgg)

IMHO it's pretty spot-on. Could perhaps have just a little less on food made near the lines Portillo covers (been stuffing his face with Eccles Cakes and Fish'n'Chips and we've only seen 2 episodes! He'll be a porker by Scarborough at this rate!:lol:) and a focus bit more on the system, but they have already covered some excellent rail based material (brilliant insights tonight on Bradshaws Mancunian roots) and dug up some nice archive, plus it's a peak time show so I suppose it needs to be a bit populist.

I'm offering 9 out of 10 for the first couple.

Any thoughts forummers? :)

Been covered on another board but I agree with you in general, good program but would have been nice to see a little more of the rail network, but at a 18.30 time slot it has to be of interest to more than just us train fans.

On thing that has caught my eye is the trains he gets on, and then the shots from inside and from the air have all been different, not that that matters to most people but I noticed!

Will prob download them all off BBC I-Player though.

Which board Cally?

A good programme, agree a few errors getting on to Mersey Elec then
sat in a 150 on Monday, yesterday good shots of the 158 triple,similar
error boarding a donkey then sat in a 158 etc. Suppose a lot of the shots were cutaways, had Porto been getting in a Range Rover then talking to camera in a skoda, this would have been spotted, but enjoyed it.

I suppose it illustrates that, to most people, a train is just a train and they simply don;t notice (or care) that there are different types. I screamed out to my other half, 'He got on a 142, but the aerial shot is a 158' and she merely shrugged and said 'So what?'.

I've enjoyed the episodes so far, but then I'm very into social history as well as railways, so I find it all interesting, even the hat factory!
