Hi everyone. I am watching this programme on YouTube. It is quite old but good. Interesting insight to railways of 1989. Recommended.

I remember being off school as it was February half term week commencing 13th when it was shown live. I have the Tuesday-Friday episodes on an old VHS tape and Mike Smith says it is Valentines day in the Tuesday episode

I was enthralled by the HST cab ride with Driver Swaby.

Was great to see how a railway worked. Incidentally, power car 43108 didn't actually have nameplates; the "plates" were actually vinyl stickers, which eventually wore off.

I think it is a bit of a shame they didn't have proper nameplates done. It could have been a long term reminder of an excellent endevour between the BBC and BR. Would have been a talking point for decades.

I vaguely remember watching this as we where on a school holiday.

Didn't they launch the class 91 during the week this was on & I seem to remember a luggage trolley rolling on to the track at some point.

I do remember the HST cab ride they showed, that was interesting.

Driver Swaby was involved in yet another BBC prog, long after he had retired, regarding the APT that he had been involved with during its development. Will try to find it for you.
