I'm pretty sure virgin ran replacement coaches on that bank holiday?

Was this the same bank holiday that EMT ran a HST from Lime St to St Pancras?

Even if it wasn't, that was a sight to see going over Stockport viaduct!

I must say, the staff came across really well this episode.

The Great British Public? Less so. I couldn't picture myself being as rude as some of the James Hunts (see what I did there? :p) that they've featured on these episodes. Really gets on my nerves. They should just go away and run a car instead. <(

We don't want them on the roads either - they'd be a menace.

And another thought, additional 11-car Pendys can't come soon enough.

They're already here. The project completion ceremony was a month or two ago. And unless someone want's to order the rest of the units up to 11-car that's going to be that.

Who was the ginger kid telling network rail that they are 'lazy *****' and 'they should try working at night the lazy *****'

Because network rail never work at night :/

And the complaints on ticket price, paying on the day in first class?? what exactly did they expect???

The train manager's idea for all the drunks returning to Liverpool was fantastic. Turn up the heating, dim the lights... and there all zzzzzzzzz :D

That's what I meant, make all units 11-car.

Next time I'm at MAN I'm finding that information fellah and shaking his hand.

That guy who wanted to go to Manchester via Nuneaton.... I nearly punched my screen. At least A train was running.

First episode was the worst. Surprise surprise it featured East Coast.

Guess.
The people buying their first class peak tickets on the train and then lol'ing about how the company are paying for it, if I was their boss they would be fired immediately. How many of these people probably work in the public sector too?

It may have just been me being cynical but that showed Virgin in a far better light than East Coast and without any serious major disruption I seem to remember in the first episode and the major chaos that came with it.

And are all Virgin RPIs and TMs just happy to let people on with tickets that are out of date when the cameras are not watching them? Im not too sure.

Some are not happy to let people on with tickets that are in date, never mind out of date!

If you are referring to the girl on the 6:35, she wasn't out of date, just 12 hours after her booked train. She may well have had a perfectly acceptable ticket.

Enjoyable episode, but that Virgin TM is a disgrace to the grade.

1. Excited about having to do a rotation test? Really?!

2. You catch a bloke stealing a ticket AND using an invalid one of his own?! And you just let him get off at Crewe?! What an arse.

I thought that the whining ginger bloke added something to the program: if you will bear with me for a moment while I go all media studies on this forum, it showed that although the normal passenger (ie, him) was complaining about the engineering works; the blokes on the track were working really hard. Perhaps next time a normal passenger is going to complain about engineering works, they'll think about that clip and realise that NR is actually working hard.

E2A: I was surprised at the flags; I've only ever seen people waving flags to despatch trains at heritage railways or railtours. I thought that all modern trains had communication bells/buzzers, making flag waving (and whistle blowing, for that matter) unnecessary.

I thought he came across as quite a genuine person, that and the bloke on the information point at Manchester Piccadilly.

So out of time out of date it really doesnt matter does it when the point is perfectly understandable.

The only perfectly acceptable ticket she couldve had would be an anytime return and given that she got pulled up on it being 12 hours too late I think its fair to say that she didnt.

Thought that TM handled the stolen ticket situation well.

No, he handled it in a very poor manner. That's NOT how you do the job at all; all he did by booting him off at Crewe was pass the problem onto somebody else. That really is woeful, and completely unacceptable as far as I'm concerned.

Seed, dispatch at EUS and MAN is on the RA, which requires flags. Same as at BHM which at the end is done by a green lamp...

Indeed. He shouldve called the BTP. Didnt come across well in that bit for sure.

E2A: And I wonder if Virgin knew about it and if not what they will be saying to him in the morning

I agree with Ferret. When you buy a ticket, you would expect that someone who doesn't buy one and blatantly tries to avoid the fare to be dealt with properly. I can't believe they were allowed to broadcast it.

They do not use buzzers at Euston and this means that the TM must acknowledge the tip from the dispatcher. that is why they use the flags

I thought that American woman was the most annoying and sarcastic person ever. No idea of good customer service at all.

Bit of a generalisation there. Certainly in local government we have ALWAYS been prohibited from travelling 1st. Even when 1st was cheaper on an advance ticket, due to the "appearance" of local government officers travelling in 1st.

Fortunately where I currently work travel is a little more flexible and best monetary value is the key, whether it is in first or standard.
