Hi all,
I am working on producing a quick reference guide for anyone who plays old sims. This one is for the BBC Micro Model B - Depotmaster Cardiff by Ashley Greenup.
I have not been able to find any instructions anywhere online so I decided if I wanted to play it I needed to do it myself. This is very much a WIP and things may not be in their correct position and I know the author must have accepted that he needed to make compromises due to the real-estate available back then on our screens.
1. For one I am not sure in VR "VAN ROAD" is where I have it or the siding / loop above it, any help would be appreciated.
2. MA "Maintenance Arrival" is just placed where it is to show that you must traverse from and to SY "Shed Yard" to move locomotives in and out.
3. SY "Shed Yard" cannot have 3 x locomotives in it and allow access to other location in the sim but it is allowed to.

Bye for now,
Stephen.

Hi all,
Look I know this looks crappy compared to the "modern" sims / games out there today but what it does have and what flashy graphics cannot make up for no matter how good they are is gameplay. Best I have achieved so far is "DISASTROUS", lol which is the lowest ranking you can get.
Others might think why does he have 3 "Locomotive berths" on the INPUT LINE when there is clearly only 2 spots (vertically) and my reasoning is that it allows for 37885/37710 or another coupled pair of locomotives to be there as well as another locomotive.
INPUT LINE
37885/37710
47213
The locomotive/s appearing in the "top slot" must be moved before the lower one ie sequentially
Another thing gleaned from playing the sim is only the 3 coupled pairs of locomotives can be stored in VAN ROAD. Also those coupled pairs can be despatched straight to DEPART LINE from the VAN ROAD.
= needs to go to the MAINTENANCE shed via "refuelling" in one if the roads in the SERVICE SHED and transitioning through SHED YARD. All locomotives returning into traffic are refuelled.
. the locomotive/s only need refuelling in the SERVICE SHED
* A examinations (shorter)
# B examinations (longer)
^ appears in front of a locomotive's TOPS code if the locomotive has not been despatched into service in long time (ie sat for an age and not rostered onto a service)
+ action taking place ie refuelling and will be available to move shortly
B. ROAD locomotives entering from the east end ie from SHED YARD go into the top slot and those entering from the HEAD SHUNT appear at the bottom of the stack.
Types of services that appear and can people help with this please. I have put my "guesstimations" next to them, not that there are many. Please note this is critical as I can then finalise the class and subclass that can haul these.
******************************************
Mineral traffic (?)
MTX - only the pair 37885/37710 can haul this
MTT - only the Class 37/5 and 37/9
MTL - Class 37/3, 37/6, 37/7, 37/8 and 37/9
PSC / SLC / DPL / TLC / PTL - Class 37/0, 37/1, 37/2, 37/6 and 37/7 (not sure about Class 37/3?)
PET - Class 37/2 pairs and Class 47/0, 47/1, 47/2 and 47/3
SLD - Class 47/0, 47/1, 47/2 and 47/3
AGG - aggregate and only Class 56s
RTF - Class 37/7, there could be more but it appears in the bottom right yellow box and has a departure time of ****. You can send a locomotive out when you have one available (random event).
Passenger
PRV - Class 37/4
PRV / MLP / ICP - Class 47/4, 47/5, 47/6 and 47/8
******************************************
SLC/SLD - SpeedLink (containers) with type categories / maximum speeds C and D
PET - petroleum (tanks)
MTx - Merry-go-road or mineral traffic, with the different categories L, T and X
PRV - maybe Valley services or parcel vans
MLP - mainline passenger
ICP - InterCity passenger
******************************************
Again any help would be appreciated. Also 50046 appears, just send it to the SERVICE SHED, it gets refuelled and does not seem to have another duty so I bury next to the buffer in S1, S3 or S6.
