The BBC are currently running another series of the "The Rise of The Nazis" - The Downfall.
In the opening credits one briefly sees a model railway.
In episode 2 viewers get to see more of it.
Hermann Goering is seen at home with his model railway but it is a basic Hornby starter set straight out of the box with a GWR 101 tank loco and a very British looking train going round the living room table.
I think even the non-railway enthusiast would spot this error.
Hermann mainly used Marklin models and browsing around on the internet a suitable period German starter set is available from Marklin for around Euro 500. Guess they were watching their budget as the basic Hornby starter set is under £100!
Of course to be fully realistic it needed to be Marklin Gauge 1 but that might have totally wrecked the budget looking at the prices of the current models which are in the Euro 3000 to 4000 bracket.
Herman's model railways were more than a mere starter set out of the box on the living room table as depicted here.
They were very large and he had two - one in the attic and one in the cellar!
Plenty of photos on the web for those who have not seen them.
