Hello all,

When doing research into another matter, it occurred to me that there was a old car terminal at bathgate for the British Leyland factory in town at that time. This was located where the current bathgate LMD is and there seemed to be plans to build a new car terminal just east of bathgate. Just past tesco if you are looking at it there is half a siding and entrance to one. A bit further along the line, near to south of the Premier Inn, there seems to be another one of these but it has a signal (disused as far as I can tell but...). What happened to this and why wasn't it built.

Cheers

The car terminal latterly was for the delivery of cars from Rover Group - M.A.T. Washwood Heath - Bathgate via East Coast. I vaguely recollect that there was a Luton - Bathgate (for Vauxhall./Bedford) at some point before that.
The Automotive services ran when the branch was freight only. When it was re-opened to passengers the car trains had priority over passenger trains.

As I remember it, it was two single lines when the passenger services re-opened. One for passenger, the other for freight. Can't remember exactly where the junction was.

Thanks, I didn't realise that.
My boss probably over-stated the importance of the agreement, but I can remember some exchanges of opinion with Sc R Control on the matter of priorities. He was one who preferred the opportunity for confrontation over conciliation, though....

The line was double from where it left the line to Polmont at Newbridge Junction to Cawburn Junction, about half a mile east of the reopened Uphall station. It was single to Carmondean Junction, about half a mile west of Livingston North station, where it split into two single lines to Bathgate and Bathgate Yard.

Thanks. I couldn't remember exactly where the junction was, although I did think it was about Uphall.
