Bath Spa to Kidderminster: any good splits?

A friend is considering a journey on a weekday in August from Bath Spa to Kidderminster. He holds a Senior Railcard.

He would want to travel via Bristol in any case, and as the train service via Worcester is so infrequent, probably via Birmingham too out of necessity.

However, there is a reasonable Voyager-free train via Worcester SH arr 10.14, dep 10.52) leaving Bristol TM at 08.41 and arriving at Kidderminster at 11.10; returning at 16.20 (via Worcester FS arr 16.40, dep 17.02). But the Saver Return is not valid until 09.30, which rules this out, and probably condems him to going via New Street.

Does anyone know of any good SDR/SOR splits that would bring down the cost on these trains via Worcester, or later CDR splits that would be cheaper than the Saver Return via Birmingham?

Keynsham is usually a good split to start with when heading that direction from Bath.

I have found this so far, others may have a better option :

SDR Bath Spa to Bristol Temple Meads £5.40, Valid Anytime
CDR Bristol Temple Meads to Droitwich Spa Not via Birmingham £8.40 W5 valid after 0830
SDR Droitwich Spa to Kidderminster £3.25, Valid Anytime

Total cost : £17.05

This would allow travel on the 0809 service from Bath Spa to Worcester

Thanks for the ideas: I'd got the peak senior railcard fare down from £72.60 to £23.85 with a split at Cheltenham, but the idea of splitting at Temple Meads & Droitwich is even better.

In reality, if he'd had to pay £72.60, the trip simply wouldn't have happened, so the railway will actually gain revenue; and he'll be very pleased with making the trip for £17.05.

Good stuff! I know pricing managers read this forum, and I hope any reading this take heed of what you said.

Sadly I also know the worst pricing managers do not think that good value fares will increase revenue and they are so obsessed with closing down cheap fares, "loopholes" etc, they don't see the bigger picture.
