As Bath Spa posses a capacity issue for further improvements around Bristol, I was wondering if it would be possible to improve capacity around Bath, which I know is easier said than done.
I was thinking if it would be possible to build two 5 car platforms on the south side or the station, on the car park? Then a new car park built on the current Travelodge site?

To what extent is the station itself the problem, rather than the signalling headways?
There’s a brief “crunch moment” around 07.00 every morning if the early London - Swansea is running late, but that’s mainly because of the need to fit in two ecs arrivals from the west which terminate and return whence they came.
If station capacity is really an issue then there’s a decent-sized bit of land at the Westmorland Road rubbish terminal about 500 metres further west.

Far cheaper to address the collection of 2/3/4 car trains that form everything at Bath except the Londons.

Yes the two things I'd do to start with are longer trains that reduce dwell times and improve signalling headways. The hourly Oxford services planned sort of do this, but the through services to/from Westbury and beyond need to be longer.

New rolling stock could also have better acceleration and top speed that would make them easier to path.
