Basingstoke to Bracknell

A friend of mine is currently working in Bracknell and has bought a monthly season ticket from Basingstoke where he lives. Knowing I know a bit about these things, he asked me what routes are valid for his ticket!

Looking at the routeing guide Basingstoke is a routeing point and Bracknell has Wokingham & Ascot as routeing points. Under the fare check rule the valid routeing points are Basingstoke and Wokingham.

Valid maps for this journey are as follows:

CS
MW+WX
WW

CS is straigtforward via Reading as I would have expected

MW+WX appears to be the same routeing and hence superflous, so not sure why it is included

WW is confusing me and is where I would appreciate some advice! It suggests a route from Basingstoke to Brookwood to Ash Vale to Ascot and hence to Bracknell. Is that really valid it seems awfully convoluted. If I was travelling via the Basigstoke to London direct route, a more obvious route would have been Basingstoke-Farnborough-Farnborough North-Wokingham-Bracknell, but that appears invalid; am I reading this correctly?

There is a bit in section F which suggests (without being terribly explicit) that if a routeing point fails the fares check rule then you must discount any mapped route through that routeing point.

My calculations show a much wider range of permitted routes for this journey.

Basingstoke - Bracknell

The shortest route is always a permitted route.
The shortest route is Basingstoke - Reading - Wokingham - Bracknell = 26.75 miles.

Any routes within 3 miles of the shortest route are always permitted routes.
Therefore Basingstoke - Farnborough Main - walk - Farnborough North - Wokingham - Bracknell = 27.75 miles is a permitted route.

Basingstoke (BSK) is a routeing point.
Bracknell (BCE) has Wokingham (WKM) & Ascot (ACT) as routeing points.

Fares check
BSK - BCE CDS £8.90, SDS £10.70
BSK - WKM CDS £8.90, SDS £9.00. WKM is an approriate RP.
BSK - ACT CDS £11.40, SDS £12.00. ACT is NOT an approriate RP.

BSK - WKM permitted routes are on maps CS, MW+WX and WW.

CS allows Basingstoke - Reading - Wokingham.

MW+WX allows

• MW: Basingstoke - Reading, then WX: Reading - Wokingham.
• WX: Basingstoke - Farnborough, then MW: Farnborough - Wokingham.
• WX: Basingstoke - Salisbury - Westbury, then MW: Westbury - Chippenham - Swindon - Didcot - Reading - Wokingham.
• WX: Basingstoke - Salisbury - Westbury - Bath Spa, then MW: Bath Spa - Chippenham - Swindon - Didcot - Reading - Wokingham.

WW allows Basingstoke - Farnborough - Brookwood - Ash Vale - Camberley - Ascot - Wokingham.
