I am thinking of going to Basingstoke soon. And I am wondering whats the best platform to be on.

Thanks in advance.

You will see most from the island platforms in the middle (3 & 4) as they are at the centre :)

If I remember right there is a cafe in the middle of the island platforms. The eastern end of the platform is probably better than the west.

Though my advice would be to hop on a train up to Reading, which is far better :)

Platform 1 is down slow. No cafe, just a smelly bog on it.

Platform 2 is down fast. Part of island platform with 3 that is up fast. Cafe in middle of platform at top of stairs up from main entrance. Lift at eastern end of 2&3.

Platform 4 is up slow and freight up to birmingham. Cafe by entrance from rear car park. Stairs down to through tunnel to 1,2&3

Platform 5 is short platform for Reading trains.

Why go to Reading? Basingstoke has Festival Place shopping centre, much better than the Oracle in Reading imho. Well worth visiting is Milestones, the transport museum of Hampshire.
