All this is liable on 5tph into Portsmouth Harbour coming into effect on April 2nd, if it doesn't... then what I've said is up the spout and one of two things will happen:
  • Basingstoke is cancelled
  • London - Weymouth is bustituted
Just been having a glance over the revised timetables for the Basingstoke resignalling and this is roughly what is happening on SWT;

Info only for 10 - 13 April, all other days are unconfirmed as of yet.

SWML: London - Weymouth
The major changes along this route are that the service is mainly transformed into a 1tph service, with the Poole service only operating between Micheldever and Poole. The Wareham service is extended to Micheldever as well.

The service is 2tph on the peak services, which SWT are classing as the 1605, 1635, 1705, 1735, 1805 and 1835. All services with exception to the 1735 and 1835 split at Southampton Central with portions for Weymouth and Poole. The 1735 and 1835 are both Poole services with the stopping pattern of the 1805 and 1905 (normal timetable) respectively. Last service along the route is the 0005, the 0105 will be terminated at Woking. The 0005 arrives at Bournemouth at 0300 and will terminate there, as normal.

On the suburban routes north of the blockade, you're relatively unaffected. Same frequency should operate between Farnborough/Winchfield and London Waterloo as normal. Most buses operate between Basingstoke and Winchester, with turning back mainly at Micheldever. Bus journey time is approx 40 mins between Basingstoke and Winchester, 70 minutes between Reading and Winchester (services for VT/SWT services).

The diversions mean that, on the whole, class 444s will be on the Weymouth route in order to permit the 10 car 444 formation on all services as per normal (journey times extended by 50 minutes, remember!). The 2205 runs to Dorchester South, and on Fridays only, will run through to Weymouth.

Going narrfbaarnd... most services are running about 5 minutes earlier than normal until Southampton Central. The three joiners at Southampton Central are running as normal and are departing from Soton Ctl at 0700, 0730 and 0800. The 0700 Weymouth - Waterloo is the first train in the hourly frequency, continuing until the 1900 as normal. The Wareham stopper, as mentioned before is extended to Micheldever along with the Poole service. The final train into London is NOT the same as normal, 2008 Weymouth - London (2357). The 2110 Weymouth - London runs to Winchester, with a connecting bus service to Winchfield, with a train arriving in London at 0143. Nice!

2210 Weymouth - Eastleigh has the normal connecting service to Winchester at 0017 (from Portsmouth).

Any trackbashers who want some non-stop runs will be specifically looking out for:
  • 0455 Poole - London (runs via Cobham)
  • No southbounds via Cobham, all call at Woking it seems!
WoE: London - Exeter/Plymouth
SWT will be operating a normal service between Salisbury and the South West, the only noticable alterations are between Salisbury and London. Andover will enjoy a half hourly direct bus service into Winchfield, as well as Basingstoke, where a half hourly replacement train service operated by class 450s, probably, will take people into London. Journey times on the buses between Winchfield / Basingstoke and Andover are both about 50 minutes. The train service into London is the normal Basingstoke stopping service.

The final journey to Salisbury (normally 2335, modified to 2339) will be a bus all the way from Winchfield to Salisbury.

PDL: London - Portsmouth
Services on this route will be altered to allow the Weymouth service to divert. No other details as of yet, sorry! (Well, I have got a few details, but I'm not totally sure.)

And on the suburban lines into Basingstoke, here is your timetable to glance over...

I remember when Thameslink had a blockade, that meant for 317s to cascade onto my line! With no loss of Timetable, north of the blockade anyway 8)

What a brilliant idea Mr Beeching to cut the connection via Alton

What a diversion.

:wav: Should get out of a few Londons then? :thumbrig:

Kris, according to the few traincrew diagrams I've seen, some drivers are doing pass to Havant and then Havant - London, so unlucky!! ;)

Very low places, that pit at Friars Bridge Court! ;)

But being serious, there are very few who are doing that. The majority of Bomo crews will just be to Havant and Micheldever.

Micheldever. SYMBIDS? - Interesting. No AWS - doesn't worry me but some of the newbies who haven't done it before will be scared.

Probably SIMBIDS, yes, unless reversals are done at the north end of the station just before Popham No.2, ie, run in, shunt across to over line. Haven't looked at turnaround times yet. I'd expect most services to Micheldever to be 450 though.

Well the resignalling for Portsmouth seems to have been particularly sucessfull this weekend;

"Line problem between Chichester and Havant.

Train services between Chichester and Havant are being disrupted due to signalling problems.
Short notice alterations and delays can be expected.
Due to a signalling problem at Havant no trains are currently departing from Chichester towards Havant until further notice.

When I was looking at journey planners yesterday, I noted, for Friday 6th April, to go from Reading to Brockenhurst, you can save some time by getting a Voyager to Guildford and then picking up a Weymouth service, rather than remaining on the Voyager for the entire journey...

Any ideas why?

You're probably right, there's a limit of shunt signal on the down before the first tunnel, can probably accomodate an 8-450 between the LoS and the down Micheldever home.

No idea what a SIMBIDS is, but presume something to do with wrong line running between Winchester & Micheldever?

Oh, and I'm assuming this also means reversals at Winchfield using the DF-UF trailing crossover, similar to when Woking US, UF and DF were closed and trains did an 'MSTS shuffle' at Brookwood and ran wrong line up the DS to Woking. 40mins from Brookwood - Woking - and I was on it!

So basically a train arrives Winchester and runs the normal route the Micheldever. Then runs back again wrong line and crosses over at Winchester, whilst at the same time another train arrives Winchester, crosses over and runs wrong line up the Down to Micheldever, then runs back normally to Winchester. Seems feasble, but limits you to 2 trains between Winchester & Micheldever, if they use the LoS at Micheldever you can take as many as the signalling will allow, but there could be a maximum of 3 trains at Micheldever at any one time - 2 in platforms and one on the Down using LoS reversal.

Highly likely to be SIMBIDS. Turnaround times appear to be 7 minutes... unless it's actually 37 and using the crossover.

Limit Of Shunt

Uually 2 red lights on the ground nowadays although all the new PLS's look similair (Position Light Signals or Dummy/Dummies)

Could be an illuminated board with Limit of Shunt or Shunt Limit written on it.

Near Ashurst New Forest Station
At Totton it says "LIMIT OF SHUNT" on the Up platform end. There are GPLs at the country end of the platform near the Level Crossing (LC), plus another the other side of the LC.
