First post on here... I lurked during the Portsmouth re-re-resignalling work for the latest news/rumours as my girlfriend lives in Pompey and I wanted to keep up-to-date with getting there and back.

Aaaaanyway - anyone know what's occuring in Basingstoke? The lines are closed near enough every weekend... which means more often than not I have to go Farnborough Main > Woking > Portsmouth or Farnborough North > Guildford > Portsmouth instead of a direct from Farnborough Main... I thanked my lucky stars when the Pompey resignalling was completed recently, and now I have this!!

As it's happening every weekend for the next 6 weeks IIRC I presume it's track replacement.
From the SWT website:

Engineering work will affect train services throughout the South West Trains area and all passengers should confirm journey details before travelling.

Basingstoke Area - All Day
All lines (except that from Platform 5 to Reading) in the Basingstoke area will be closed all day. No trains will run between Farnborough and Winchester or between Basingstoke and Andover. Some trains will leave London Waterloo earlier than normal.

Train services to and from Weymouth will run via an alternative route between Woking and Southampton Central, calling at Guildford, Havant and Fareham.
Other train services to Southampton, Bournemouth and Poole, also to and from Portsmouth via Eastleigh will only run south of Winchester.
South West Trains services between Reading, Basingstoke and Brighton will run between Eastleigh and Brighton. Shawford will be served by the altered Portsmouth trains.
Bus services will run between Woking, Basingstoke, Micheldever and Winchester, also between Reading, Basingstoke and Winchester connecting with the above train services.
Services to Salisbury and the "West of England" will only run west of Andover. Bus services will run between Woking, Basingstoke and Andover. Some buses will also stop at Overton and Whitchurch. See also information for west of Exeter St Davids.
Stopping services to Basingstoke will run between London Waterloo and Farnborough (some will make extra stops at Esher for the racing at Sandown Park). Replacement buses will run between Farnborough and Basingstoke.
Some train services to Portsmouth via Haslemere will have minor delays to accommodate the diverted Weymouth trains.
Virgin Trains services between Bournemouth and the North will either run via Guildford with longer journey times or will not run south of Reading.
First Great Western will run a train service between Basingstoke and Reading on the line which remains open.

Mooster: Would I be right in assuming you're from Farnborough (if it's Yateley then bog off )? If so then you may well have seen myself and user "Death" around, particularly in the M3/Pinewood area If you ever see a silver Cygnus-X scooter in the motorcycle parking area then be warned - it's alarmed We should hold a Farnborough forum meet some time as there's enough of us invading this forum - I guess we could allow a certain other member here who's from deepest darkest Ash Vale too... Anyway - I'm rambling now. Welcome to the forum!

Slightly faster way into London from Farnborough on Saturdays, xx46 to Woking, change to the xx03 ex Poole/Weymouth. Should get you into London for about xx33.

Coxster - I am indeed from Farnborough... on the outskirts of North Camp, near Farnborough Tech to be exact!

If I see your Cygnus I'll remember to steer clear then, haha.

I'm not a massive rail fan per se, I just have the pleasure of using SWT every day on some weeks - at least 5 days each week because of getting to work! My journey in the morning conists of the 0758 from Farnborough, then the 0817 from Woking, then a quick nip over the platform to get the 0833 from Weybridge to Chertsey. When it works, it's fine, but when it goes wrong - yeuch!

Yeah, I know! Connections at Weybridge for the Chertsey line don't seem to match up very well with arrivals at all....

The 0817 pulls in at 0830, with the Chertsey train departing at 0833!

That'd be quite good - the number of bikes that get crammed together in that space would probably create quite a nice domino effect. As for the chav business, that is soooo 2005/6!
