We never really had graffiti then but I believe it would serve as a deterrent now.
It didn’t deter a host of minor crimes, so it’s dubious that it would make a difference now. Rapid removal and zero publicity, however, is proven to make a difference

Graffiti as we experience it today only came in with the felt tip pen and subsequently spray paint. It was then monetised by the spread of the Internet.

Nono, we used to beat people with sticks. Antisocial behaviour and vandalism has only been an issue since we stopped. Come on, get with the program man!
True. But you had to make an effort scratching something into stone or wood. Nowadays it's easy with your felt tip on a nice smooth plastic or painted surface. Even easier to make a big display with your spray can.
