Bargeddie-Edinburgh SDR

Why is there no CDR for this journey via Glasgow ? Though i note there is for route not Glasgow. Obviously a BGI-0433 CDR and a 0433-EDB would be better than the SDR fare. Any definitive reason for this other than a supposed anomaly?

No idea, but if you want cheaper GLC/GLQ-EDB fares, get a ticket from Hamilton Central. Much easier to do if you're starting in the east.

Aye, i've sold it on many an occasion , just had bother with a passenger a while back specifically wanting a CDR via Glasgow, and they weren't happy with my splitting option. Though i think this is due to them getting away with buying the not Glasgow ticket and using it via Glasgow as they quoted the correct price. Whilst i'm happy to sell it, it still leaves them without a valid ticket for the journey being made.

Are they asking you on a train heading West, toward Glasgow? If so, where are they getting off? I'm struggling to picture this journey in my head! If they are asking when going toward Whifflet then I'd assume they are avoiding Glasgow.

Yes, towards Glasgow. They were steadfast in the fact that a return to Edinburgh was, if I remember, 9.30 to which I agreed, but I had trouble convincing them it was a Not Glasgow route, even when I showed them the fares screen! As I said, I offered a split ticket but they refused to pay 10.70 for a 0433-EDB return so I just gave them the return for the Bargeddie-Glasgow part and wished them the best of luck.

When I put 0433 (Glasgow Cen/Qst) to EDB into Avantix NFM06, it doesn't come up with any 'normal' fares e.g. CDR, SDR etc, only promotional fares :?

It would be more obvious to travel via Glasgow
However, it appears the preffered option is to change at Whifflet and Motherwell

Presumably via Glasgow the mileage is higher than the limit for a Off Peak Day Return

Equally, the Whifflet fare is also via Motherwell, but there is a Off Day Return available

Just playing devil's advocate here. If you look up the fares from Bargeddie to Edinburgh on the East Coast booking engine it gives an option of a fare at £9.30 and if you hover the mouse over the '£9.30 Return' button it says something like "Off Peak Day Return Not via Glasgow; not valid on any of the services shown below." But if you don't hover over the button and just click on the blue "i" button next to the listed services it does show services via Glasgow even though the £9.30 option is not valid. There is no fare shown so you can't buy online but maybe that is why some passengers think it is valid via Glasgow.

Yes, perhaps that is what has happened. They weren't best pleased about it anyway, but I suppose that's that. I thought splitting it was perfectly reasonable, as all they've did is went to another station to purchase the Edinburgh portion. Regarding going via cumbernauld, Quite a few do this returning but I've never seen it outward, it is quite a time consuming route though.

The Bargeddie - Edinburgh, via Cumbernauld, shows up for departure about 09:00
There isn't much in it time wise, but you certainly need to change trains a few times
This is very similar to the Slateford - Glasgow QS

I used to make quite a few journeys many years ago between Barrhead and Edinburgh
That too was cheaper to get as two separate Day Returns, rather than the one ticket

A similar dog-leg route was Barrhead - Carlisle
My preference was to travel via Glasgow rather than direct...
