SATURDAY APRIL20TH
Arrived at Bare Lane 17 minutes early from excitement for the 0707 Northern service worked by 153359 to Lancaster on arrival 6 minutes later I went for my usual Costa Coffee.
390138 "City of London" arrived on time at 0737 but departed 2 minutes late as per usual as there is never enough time to alight/board. Met my fellow travellig companion Matt joined me at Preston. Arrived into Euston on time.
After a nice steady stroll down Euston Road and entering up the ramp at St Pancras treated ourselves to a champagne breakfast at Searcys. Matt wanted to explore St Pancras as he'd never been there before. Went to check in at Eurostar early for the 1258 to Brussels Midi as I thought Matt would have problems with metalwork in his arm but no such occurrence.
Boarded Eurostar at 1238 allocated aisle seats on a table. Journey flew past aided with a G&T. On arrival at Brussels Midi proceeded down to the bus/tram interchange to locate bus 27 to our hotel near Gare Luxembourg. Impressed by destination screens on bus counting down to departure time.
Arrival at our hotel revealed no record of our booking but the friendly receptionist asked us to come back later and leave our bags. After a short walk to Trone we caught the 54 bus to the Prison after I had realised I had left the maps of pubs to visit at reception. By luck found Chez Lambric Moeder and had Troubadour and St Stefanus. Walked to a metro station and back to Trone for the maps. Back to Trone boarded bus 95 to the Grand Place. Did the touristy things there and had dinner at Brasserie Du Lombard, Rabbit with Prunes and Frites washed down with Delirium. Nightcap at La Baroque with a Timmermans Kriek. Bus 95 back to the Trone and wound down watching Holby City!
SUNDAY 21ST APRIL
Woke up again early so we had time to get the 0846 bus 27 back to Gare Du Midi and coffee after which enquired about changing our LondonSpezial tickets to go via the Rhine Valley but to no avail.
Went up to the platforms early watching TGV's and Thalys' come and go before boarding the 1025 ICE to Frankfurt Hbf. Nice fast run but were 5 down into Frankfurt Hbf. Quick pint of Paulaner in a small bar on the main street then back to Platform 12 to board EC117 to Munich, destination Klagenfurt.
