Bank Holiday Sleeper Routing

On Sunday 30 August the Highland Sleeper leaves Euston at 19.40 and gets to Crewe at 22.47. It's then 00.35 from Preston.

The 'up' Sleeper is 4.33 at Preston, 6.24 Crewe and into Euston at 9.35.

Looks like the Lowland Sleeper is being diverted as well.

Can anyone find out which route they're taking? Manchester and Birmingham maybe?

If it's being diesel-loco hauled, and in view of the scheduled August Bank Holiday Weekend engineering works between Leighton Buzzard/Rugby, between Nuneaton/Lichfield T.V. and between Crewe/Warrington Bank Quay, I wonder whether the routing will be along the following lines:- Euston to Coventry (via High Wycombe and Leamington) then onwards via Birmingham International and Stafford to Crewe and then onwards to Preston via Stockport and Manchester?

Using theTrainline (which utilises a TRUST/TOPS feed) I have determined the down Lowland service does indeed go via Stockport/Manchester as suggested by Mcr Warrior, it however does not take the HWY route, it does still travel up the West Coast using the route via Watford Junction, Milton Keynes Central, Northampton, Rugby, Coventry, Birmingham New Street, Wolverhampton and Crewe.

The down Highland service takes it's usual route via Rugby, Tamworth, Stafford, Crewe and Wigan to reach Preston.

Could you explain how you did this? When I tried it, it asks whether I want a Sleeper service. If I answer yes it then says no data is available.

Sorry yes, I have missed a slight bit out of my post in that only the Lowland Sleeper appears within theTrainline. I had to go to the National Express East Coast site to find the 1940 service (no tickets available but the service was still listed).

The Lowland Sleeper did appear in theTrainline so I was able to use the via function to check whether the sleeper went via a particular station, thus giving me the route of the service

Yes.

On some WebTISs there is also a separate option "Stops At...".

Yes, as I mentioned in the Advance Glasgow-Crewe topic, Thetrainline knows all the passing points, and if a train goes via a passing point, it knows about it. The train does not have to call for it to accept the train as going via any station.

You can try this by, for example, entering KGX to YRK via CHF leaving after 20:00. It won't show the 20:00 or 21:00, but it will show the 22:00 which is the only direct train of the day to do it.
