I have just been on a Banbury to London journey.

Ticket was super off peak return to ' London Terminals ', obviously I went to Marylebone, I assume this ticket would be valid via Paddington and Reading, but, out of interest, would it be valid via Reading and Waterloo?

Yes - according to National Rail enquires it is, and also as far as London Bridge, City Thameslink, and all the usual former 'London SR' destinations.
