Ban on overtime - 2nd October

Hi All,

A month ago I booked a train ticket from London Victoria to Eastbourne for 2nd October (Southern Rail). Recently I have found that about the planned ,,ban on overtime action'' on that day and four following days. I am not from UK and I do not really know if I should worry and cancel the ticket, or just wait until 2nd October and see if my train will eventually leave? Will the trains on days of ,,ban on overtime strike'' be cancelled or just late? Thank you for help!

Southern rail drivers belong to a different union (the RMT) which is not taking action on 2nd October, so your services should be unaffected.

Edit: This is wrong. Southern will be affected, there may be some cancellations. But with normally two trains an hour to Eastbourne you can just catch the next one if yours is cancelled.

Yes, I'd always thought it was an RMT area, but I'd just found out I was wrong and was about to edit my comment. (:

Did that area used to be RMT only in the past?

I'm wondering very much the same thing. I was planning to travel from Bournemouth to Nottingham during the week of the overtime ban. I’m not too concerned about the second part of the journey from London St Pancras to Nottingham, as experience from previous overtime bans is that only a handful of trains were cancelled. Does anyone have any experience of what the situation could be like between Bournemouth and Waterloo travelling around midday?

There will be trains running, although whether your intended train is running on time, late, or cancelled will not be known until the day. It may be worth arriving early to the station in case of problems, but also keep an eye on journey planners throughout the day.
