Right, but why would that be a bad thing? I genuinely don't get your point. You're criticising a campaign for publicising itself and because you think the person who created it must have been affected by the issue it's raising awareness of.

I genuinely don't understand how either of those two things matter.

Because that's only your opinion that it's a genuine problem 'defined' by me. TheKnightWho's response to my initial post was little more than a rant so if I'm not allowed to debate that because that's 'imposing my opinion on others' then what am I allowed to do?

Nowhere have I ever said you are not allowed to debate.

You brought up genuine petitions, REAL problems and REAL people, not me. The implication of your post was that only these things are worth discussing, and you are using your own opinion to define this.

I don't really see how you can read your post as anything else.

By all means express your opinion, say the petition is rubbish, pointless, that you will ingnore it or whatever is your view, but once you start trying to say what should be ignored by other people, then you should expect to be challenged on it.

From my experience of being a team leader in an exercise yesterday (incident managing two casualties trapped in an enclosed confined space), there is a big difference between being a leader and being bossy. I'd argue that a good leader isn't necessarily bossy.

That said, I can see the merit of the campaign.

Quite. Being a leader is about making quick decisions when necessary, and also knowing when to listen to other views, take them onboard and allow them to feed into your way of thinking.

Just ordering people about isn't leading, and it is a failure made by both sexes to think that it is.

The real debate, and the real issue behind this campaign, is about words, the way they are used and the effect that this has on the recipient, particualry if they are a young and impressionable age.

OK I'll back down, I've said what I wanted to say, even though I'm tempted to say more all I shall say I'm despairing at the reasons behind this campaign and hope it gets quietly buried. I'm still not sure it's genuine either.

That's fine! You are entitled to your opinion and to express it. My initial reaction was similar to yours, but I have reconsidered on further reflection, and I think there may well be merit in it, although I do still have some doubts about the way it has been presented.

Where are men even mentioned in that paragraph? She says 'little boy' because she's talking about little boys, and in the next sentence she says

Yet when a little girl does the same, she risks being branded “bossy.”

She's not referring to women when she says 'little girl' either.

FWIW, in my experience of male and female managers, this is exactly what happens. Men ordering people about are called 'assertive' and 'strong', women simply asking people to do their jobs are called 'bossy' and 'uppity'.
When a colleague in a previous job once complained that a female manger was being bossy, she replied 'That's because I'm your boss. Bosses are bossy, mates are matey. What else should I be?'
