Two homes in Baildon to be demolished due to railway landslip
The houses by the railway line in Baildon are now structurally unsafe, according to Network Rail.
As expected 2 homes will sadly have to be demolished.
Highly unusual use of NR’s statutory powers, as the BBC explain. As expected 2 homes will sadly have to be demolished.
It was featured at 1830, employee from NR said that the line would be shut for around 3 months once they have knocked the houses down. Ironic considering the expected deadline stated on the article of June! There's to be an item about the house(s) involved on Look North (Leeds) on BBC1 at 2230.
It may for all I know have also been on the 1830 edition - I haven't checked.
I wonder what the neighbour on the left (ie nearer the road bridge) is thinking about his house’s future…It was featured at 1830, employee from NR said that the line would be shut for around 3 months once they have knocked the houses down. A woman who lives in a neighbouring house, possibly that one, was in the item. There's monitoring equipment in her garden and she said it showed no movement so far.I wonder what the neighbour on the left (ie nearer the road bridge) is thinking about his house’s future…
That was based on a misreading (by me) of a photo and related to a property diagonally opposite. The post has recently been corrected.Earlier in the thread it was noted that the more easterly of the 2 houses (the one on the "Ilkley side") had been subject to an extension, the implication being that it could have de-stabilised the bank.
OK, many thanks for clarifying that. That was based on a misreading (by me) of a photo and related to a property diagonally opposite. The post has recently been corrected.
The actual property is relatively new with some "1interesting" foundations but there's no obvious evidence of an extension.
Sadly I'm not surprised, judging by some of the drone shots taken recently both properties will be seriously undermined by the landslide. Awful for the two house owners whom I believe have lived in the area for some time.![]()

Yes still on schedule for reopening Sunday.I noticed this morning that some maintenance equipment were on the line between Shipley East and Charlestown viaduct, looking like vegetation was being cleared. Hopefully this is another indication that the line will re-open on Sunday 30th.
Good stuff, I don't want to moan too much because of the nature of the landslip and that people in the area have lost their homes, but its been a pain. And I know the RRB contractors have long been fed up with the work as its messed with some of the drivers rotas judging by what I've heard sitting on the coaches!Yes still on schedule for reopening Sunday.
rain services will shortly return through Baildon following repairs carried out by Network Rail at the site of a landslip in the town.
No trains have been able to run through the area since February 9. However the line is due to reopen on Sunday 30 June so services can run again between Bradford Forster Square and Ilkley.
Monitoring of the landslip repair will continue to make sure there are no issues or risks to train services.
Network Rail wants to thank passengers for their patience and understanding while services have been affected.
It also wants to thank all residents impacted by the work over recent months.
Jason Hamilton, Network Rail’s route director for its North & East route, said: “I know this has been a difficult time for the community and I want to say a heartfelt thank you to all impacted local residents for their support and cooperation throughout our work.
“I also want to say thank you to passengers who have faced disruption to rail services for their patience and understanding of the situation.”
Kerry Peters, regional director for Northern, said: “I’d like to thank our customers for their patience while this complicated and safety-critical work was carried out by Network Rail. We appreciate it has caused significant disruption to people’s journeys over several weeks and we are very happy to be able to resume services along the line once again.
I wonder if I was your driver?Yep, aiming to catch a local service this morning.
I was on the 09:11 out of Baildon towards Forster Square. So nice to have our trains back, and I know some drivers at JJB coaches will be glad to not have to run the RRBs any more. They were complaining that not only was shuttling between Shipley and Guiseley boring, but they often got stuck in traffic taking buses back to their depot which was causing them rostering issues!I wonder if I was your driver?
Ah, I was on hour behind you, in that case. It is indeed good to have the line open again.I was on the 09:11 out of Baildon towards Forster Square. (It was also good to see the work for the new platform at Forster Square coming on, but I'll leave the details for the correct thread!)
