Hello,

I bought a four month BahnCard while in Germany

It has renewed automatically to a 12-month BahnCard which they have sent me through the post along with an invoice

Does anyone know how much time before the start date of the new BahnCard I have to cancel, or is it already too late because I received it?
And any ideas on how to cancel, or even what the cheapest way to pay it from the UK is?

Many thanks

You need to cancel two maybe three months before the card expires.

DB UK has a proforma letter which you can ask them for. This needs to be sent to DB in Frankfurt. As far as paying the invoice, I suggest you ring up DB UK about that.

This would be better in the International Transport section.

Not that it makes a difference, but which level is it - 25 / 50 / 100? There are different enquiry numbers for the levels.

It's probably best to get a definitive answer from DB.

I did not notice that DB had automatically issued a new one until I was chased by a debt collection agency from Holland.

Reader's Digest. ;)

Actually, it's seems to be general business practice over there, everything's on auto-renewal. Not that I necessarily agree with it.

I got caught with this, I phoned up DB, they were fairly intransigent, but I asserted that I had not been informed that it would automatically renew after 1 year & in the end they agreed to cancel it.

The info about it being automatically renewed is all over the German language terms and conditions, I guess they haven't translated that bit.
