No no! I wholly agree with that, and even have applied for back pay myself given I am entitled to it. I’m sick of quite the opposite attitude, “you don’t deserve the money even though you worked for it”. Also the “why should I do my job that I am paid to do” attitude.
My apologies, I misunderstood!

The poster who doesn't think we're owed it, I don't think works in the industry.

ETA: …On rereading my original post could have done with more context. But alas; it was a quick reply done mid-interval from a theatre show. Hindsight!
Heard from another SE driver this evening who’s waiting on backpay; I paraphrase:

‘Don’t contact us regarding backpay. We’re doing this as a gesture of goodwill, not because you’re entitled to it, so it takes as long as it takes… so stop bothering us for an update’

Absolutely shocking.

Is that a comment made by the FOC or by a particularly unhelpful and 'underpaid' member of wages staff though? I would suggest emails addressed to the MD and the Finance Director of the TOC involved

That is a shocking response.

Some people switch TOCs to take up new roles and promotions, they didn’t leave because the pay was poor. Once the company and union enter into a dispute, that date is registered, the pay deal is then negotiated from that date. If people work beyond that date, they are entitled to back pay to the date the dispute started whether they left or not and the reason for leaving is a moot point.
I'll note that at previous - heavily unionised but non-railway - employers, the stance was that any back pay arising from a pay deal was due only to current employees. Those who had left the business forfeited any claim to back pay.

You might argue that we needed a better union. You might well be right.

Interesting comment, obviously I don't know which time period you're referring to but when I had dealings with wages and salaries in the Post Office, encompassing the 70s, 80, and 90s, we would spend hours trawling through old records, mainly manual records, to work out any backpay due to former employees, the only ones who weren't paid were those that couldn't be traced

Update for GWR leavers… just had my ePay notification through with a payslip dated for this Friday 07/02

Fingers crossed it comes through then… Feeling somewhat relieved.

Hopefully an equivalent update for SE drivers will follow soon!

Chase via your old branch sec.

But my email did say Feb or March, so maybe it's been staggered.

No worries. Probably worth an email to your old branch sec anyway, just in case

Anybody else still waiting on Backpay from GWR? I submitted my forms the day it was emailed out. I have reached out only to be told they are working through requests and this will take some time.

Former Southeastern Driver here!
Was considering starting a thread like this Myself, so thanks!
The response from SE to former employee's has been pretty poor.
A few of us who left at the same time have contacted payroll for updates and information.
Frist emails were sent end of September after the announcement of the pay award and we where asked to supply a few details at the time. We have not had any official response.
Replies to recent emails have stated leavers will likely receive back pay in the new year or working towards February but no actual formal confirmation
A former GA driver I know had a far better experience. They were kept up to date with the ongoing process, given a date and received their back pay in December
Totally understandable that there are alot of former drivers to get through however getting on for 6 months is poor in my opinion
Chadd66, former Southeastern Engineer here.

Can Chadd66 or anyone here else in this forum assist, or clarify:-

I’m retired, but left when the back dating pay negotiations, were still ongoing. I have found out through RailPen, Southeastern have not updated RailPen on what my new salary would have been, as the agreement on the contracted backdated pay award was made after I retired, but timeframe covered when I was employed at Southeastern trains.
(I hope that makes sense)

I assumed my final salary would be calculated off the agreed new salary, that would have applied, as it covered the period that I was still working for the company.

But I have found through RailPen they have only used my old salary for my final pensionable pay, as they say Southeastern trains have not updated them what my new salary would have been.

I have been trying to establish if contracted backdated pay rises are pensionable, but have been given the right runaround, seem a very simple question to me. The TSSA, appear, well let’s say, to date, have been totally useless, to put it mildly.

My understanding, for a company not to use an agreed backdated pay rise, as your pensionable pay, would appear to be Southeastern trains unethically manipulating the final salary pension scheme, for the benefit of the company, at the detriment of any employees wishing to retire, with the company withholding the employees contracted salary increases, (which their pensions will be based on) until after the employees leaving date.
If this were the case, it would clearly appear to be an unethical manipulation of the fundamental core ethos and principles of the final salary pension scheme.

So can anyone assist, are contracted backdated pay rises pensionable or not pensionable?

Your help, guidance appreciated.
