So I’m going back into the office few days a week and looking to use key go which as I understand is pay as you go and you don’t need to add any tickets? Is there any benefit to this price wise over paper tickets?

Is it as simple as it seems to be being like an oyster? I’m travelling from Hertfordshire to Farringdon, would this be any different to a mobile ticket from train line?

When correctly set up, yes KeyGo acts as a PAYG ticket fairly similar to Oyster. You touch in at your origin station and out at your destination station and the system works out the cheapest ticket or combination of tickets to cover the journeys you make each day, and charges this to your linked card at the end of the day.

If you only travel infrequently, it could be cheaper than a paper/mobile/e-ticket as you don't need to work out in advance what tickets would be cheapest for your journeys. However, it may equally be cheaper to buy a season ticket or Flexi Season depending on exactly how often you travel.

Also bear in mind that you may be eligible for a Railcard which could discount the cost of your travel. Railcards can be applied to your KeyGo account.

Where in Hertfordshire are you travelling from? Looking at your username I'm guessing you might be under 30 years of age and if so you can make a significant saving using a 26-30 railcard which is valid in the morning peak, subkect to a minimum discounted fare of £12.

Keygo works fine as long as you are on GTR trains, but you can't use it on London Overground, which is a major inconvience for me.

I have been using KeyGo for a few months now and in general it works fine. I have a senior railcard associated with it and the discounts are automatically applied. As I often travel between London from St Albans in peak hours , I am charged the contactless single fare on the way in and the railcard discounted fare on the way back. What is interesting is if I come back outside the evening peak. In this circumstance I am charged the off peak contactless fare but with the railcard discount applied as well! This fare is not available unless using KeyGo.

The only downside I have found is when there is severe travel disruption - when all services were cancelled because of the storms a couple of months ago having a paper ticket would have made my journey home via an alternative route much easier.
