It is very subjective, and I guess that it is problem, that on public transport it is possible to satisfy some of the people all the time etc...

My least favourite seats are probably the 'Southern spec' 2+2 Compin seats in the Electrostars - I have sat in the same type of seat on several SNCF and CFL fleets and they are very supportive and plush, but those on the 377s have cushions that are too hard and thin for me, resulting in the top of the seat base being slightly lower than elsewhere and hence the armrests relatively too high - and there's a lump at the front of the base that digs into the back of my thighs... ...the earlier 377/1s with the Connex interior seemed a lot better by comparison.

There are quite a few variants of that seat but I'd agree it's not very good. The WMT "first class" versions are the worst - they have a hard and oddly shaped back cushion that leaves me in pain even on a short journey. Even in a 350/2 Standard is to me an upgrade.

You rarely see anyone complain about the Grammer E3000 used in most Desiros. It's a real shame Grammer exited the passenger seating market so it's no longer available. The Sophia isn't a wildly different seat, but the well known problem with the base just ruins it.

There's nothing subjective about the seat base issues on the IETs though.

I don't like the Thameslink 700 seats, but they have proved to be very durable, whereas the IET seat bases wearing so quickly that you feel the bar underneath is objectively very poor.

Very true. The Grammer is a very comfortable seat for modern stock.

For me, the “least worst” option for modern (installed in the last few years) seats are those used across the Avanti fleet imho.

I think a uniformed look would go well for them as it saves the regular travellers thinking "Why was my other train more comfortable than this one?"

Cushions. There's nowt wrong with the frames and they will be used in the 897 with a different cushion.

Yes remember some seats have ok contours but crap padding. They can often be improved with an inch extra foam!

The seats in anglia units are ok paddingwise but dont have a good lumber support for example. The 377 ironing boards have a decent shape but not enough padding...and so on
