You should have been given the option of a seating plan when you booked your ticket and seats - no? I rarely accept the default-allocated seats, I look at the seat plan and see what's available to my liking (and my wife)

J79 and J80 are a priority seat pair which have a full window. They (or the same ones at the other end/on the other side) are what I usually go for.

They definitely have a full window. I always sit in those end priority seats. I'd have them down as the best seats in Standard so the original poster has very much lucked out!

When booking your ticket, the forum's ticketing site, select the option to use the seat selector. The seat selector states which seats are restricted view.

Can you confirm if this is 1430 King's Cross to Newcastle, and that this is on Monday 12 October?

Those seats are fine and are currently available on this service.

Note that the 1433 is a far better train, as it's planned to be an InterCity 225 (91 + Mk4s) it does cost about £18 more, but worth considering, as the experience is so much nicer, and the ride is smoother.

It's fairly easy to work it out with 80x from the end. The door pockets have no view. The next seat has a very small one and is a particularly bad choice as you also get the end of the door pocket against your shoulder. The next row (the one above) has a full window. Then it pretty much alternates full window, almost no window, full window, almost no window etc until the table which is aligned or almost so. Then start it again, "almost no window" first.

Rule of thumb when booking a seat in standard on an 80x, the tables have a full window, the airline seats behind the table seats therefore do not, and the airline seats two rows back from the table always have an excellent view.
