Axminster now left hand running

Just passed Axminster and see that the loop had been switched back to left hand running. Is there a treason for the switch as the line hadn't been open that long

It changed last December - I believe LHR allows units a better run up the incline to the west of the station (Honiton Bank?).

Thanks it did surprise me a bit, but guess it makes sense. I guess a W/B service awaiting late running E/B train will be held in the station rather then at the end of the loop?

Funnily enough I saw the exact opposite occur on Saturday. The w/b service started off (on time) and the e/b service rolled in after a gap (just a bit late). I am doubtful whether the line cleared before the w/b had to pull up (but there again I didn't see that, it might have been OK).

It must save fuel if the w/b gets a good run at Honiton Bank, I would think. Of course, coming the other way from Honiton, it's the same height that has to be dragged up to, and not much of a run up there either.

Though Honiton Station is a fair bit higher then Axminster (~100m Altitude difference)
