Hi all,

A quick question:

Why is it that all AXC Voyagers still have a yellow triangle on the front where the original Virgin badge was removed and painted over? Surely when they went into the paint shop to go into AXC colours, they could have sprayed the whole end instead of leaving a little triangle in a lighter shade of yellow?!

Just comes across as laziness to me...or is there a reason behind it?

thing is they didnt paint it, the whole panel was painted yellow and they got dirty so when the badge was removed there was a small clean triangle

Yes - the XC Voyagers aren't painted in the colours - go and stand up close to one and you'll be able to see it has been very crudely vinyled, and the front end wasn't touched at all!

Indeed so, I'm just waiting for one to get stuck down at Dawlish when the next spree of bad weather strikes and for the vinyls to get washed off into the ocean.

The only thing that isn't a shoddy job on XC is the HST refurb, and even that has its faults.

Ocean-like enough for me on my cross-channel trips! Always feels like a year spent on the ferries crossing the waters!

Plus it might not float up the Channel, it might float off towards the Atlantic. Can you imagine being on a cruise ship looking out at the water:

"Oh look, dear, a CrossCountry vinyl in the water!"

"Dawlish must be having some rough weather then with 220022 in some trouble!"

They should go to the company that provides the FTPE vinyls as they appear to stay on. Why would salt water peel vinyls any more than rain water???

I can see why CrossCountry used vinyls - they're a very quick way of covering up an old brand.

What they really didn't want is having trains running around in a scheme still used by an existing train company - and I'd hazard a guess at saying quite a litigous one at that.

They've been a lot slower on the Turbostars, probably because they were all in Midland Mainline's 'Bambi' colour scheme or Central Trains' liveries - both defunct.

Seriously, any chance of dropping the size of Penny the Pendolino to match the other one? It's quite overpowering, especially if it's a really short post.

222001: Whether salt water would have the ability to remove the vinyls or not I do not know, but it was meant to be read as a bit of a joke!

Most of ATW's fleet is vinyl with some of the 150's being painted the way normally to tell is the painted 150's are ex central so they have the LED lights but also they are usually shinier but ye the voyagers are vinyled with the yellow ends untouched hence the little triangle.

I think it looks good in its own little way just shows change in our railways

Thats news to me! 175's aside most of the stuff I get my hands on is painted.

As for AXC repaints/refurbs, well who really care's. They are just voyagers! Probably invalidate the warrenty on bodypanels anyway which is one of the major reason's new stock doesnt get a fresh lick of paint everytime a TOC decides to change the font/colour/emblem/keep office walla's in a job thinking these daft idea's up/ lose a franchise/gain a franchise!

I agree with an increasing lot of fellow traincrew/railwaymen that think that all stock should be painted in one livery nationwide, TOC's can then add a small name on the side. Well if you saw how much money TOC's will spend rebranding stock regardless of actually fixing the fault's on them it just becomes a joke. Besides most passengers still think we are BR anyway so what does it really matter.

I know that may seem rather a boring idea & I myself loved the era of BR when IC/RF/RR etc liverys began to come through the endless sea of Railblue but things have just got stupid now & actually working on these rail vehicles it just becomes maddening. This is something that all my mates from ATW/LM/VWC/AXC agree on. We always joke that we cant have many more franchise changes otherwise our vehicles will be out of gauge with all that vinyl/paint on the sides.

I agree with that point, having everything one colour would make sense. Maybe a nice blue with white doors and operator logos on the sides. So long as they aren't enormous, it would be good. Well, that and make sure the numbers are readable unlike on Voyagers!
