Awaiting response from GTR

Hi, I am wondering how long it takes for GTR to respond after I have replied to the letter of intent to prosecute. I have seen on the threads that they are responding quite quickly. They have confirmed they have received my letter but I haven’t had a letter and it’s been nearly 3 weeks since I sent mine. Should I be worried?

Is there things about what you did that might complicate your case. Eg long term persistent evasion?

When you say they have confirmed receipt of your letter how has that been done?

Would it be possible for you to share both sides of all the correspondence (without personal details showing in any of it) to help us understand more about what happened?

Also. Do you think your post is reliable at your address? Could that be an issue?

You could test your post by sending yourself a second class letter ideally posting it in another town.

Hi, this is the first time I have evaded. I emailed them to query as I hadn’t heard a response and having looked on this forum it was clear lots of people were receiving responses within a few weeks. They emailed saying it had been received and awaiting review from a prosecuter. My post is reliable so I am not worried about that!

I just am worried if the ones that take longer to reply are ones likely to be prosecuted. I did ask for an out of court settlement. From what I’ve seen on this forum most replies were within 10 days.

For context, I used a railcard ticket when I do not in fact have one which I deeply regret.

I don’t think this matches up with what we see, which is GTR settling basically every case.

Yes nothing suspicious, I rarely travel to London. I did lie to the office inspector as I was so embarrassed and said I had left my railcard at home. So I not only purchased a railcard priced ticket but also lied to an inspector. I honestly just did it out of pure impulsivity to save myself a few pounds, not thinking of the consequences.

Telling the inspector a lie will not differentiate the case to your disadvantage, as those on the front line are used to it, and it is quite common when people find themselves caught without a valid ticket.

Not telling the truth when responding to their letter is much more likely to be problematic, as they will then not think the reply is in good faith, so cannot believe any promises not to do it again, etc.

I did tell the truth in the letter and owned up to both of my mistakes. It just doesn’t seem normal for a response to take this long, but perhaps I am over thinking.

I hand wrote it on the piece of paper they include with the letter of intent to prosecute. I did apologise and gave my true account of what had happened. I asked for the opportunity to settle out of court. Although I now wish I had typed it and made a copy. I was also concerned as I sent it 2nd class as I had not read this forum where it is ideal to send signed for and first class. However their email did confirm it has been received.

You've sent something and you know that it's been received. There's an outside chance that their reply has got lost in the post, but excepting that, all you can do is wait for their detailed reply.

In the (unlikely) event that GTR have replied to you but it's got lost, the next you hear might be a summons or SJPN. But in our experience even when that happens GTR are willing to reopen negotiations.

So overall, the best thing you can do is to relax and wait for GTR to contact you.

I have not yet received the letter however I put my reference into the payment for GTR and it showed I had to pay a total of £74. I am assuming I will receive the letter this week.
