I idiotically paid for a small portion of my return journey on 7 different occasions (over the space of 2-3 weeks) as well as using railcard discount despite mine being expired. Not something I am proud of and was very much something I did because of financial difficulty and the only way I could get to work. Appreciate it’s not acceptable and it is eating me alive I did this and now obviously awaiting a big big fine. Of course I bought a valid railcard later that evening and pay for my full journey ever since, and will never ever make the same stupid choice again.
I have read lots of @Hadders comments which are very helpful, but I am petrified if they want to take me to court. I have never convicted any crimes and I am genuinely so disappointed in myself for being in this situation. During the caution, I was honest and also showed the officer my Trainline app so he could see and also count the journeys (when he asked how many times I’d done this) because I was dazed with anxiety. I understood the importance of being honest during caution.
Off the record at the end when I asked him the likelihood of the situation, he said it is unlikely it’ll be taken to court for 7 times but I know it’s not his decision, it’s the penalty company it’s sent to.
I am aware it can take up to 6 months to hear from them. Has anybody experienced being caught paying only a portion of their journey and no railcard repeatedly. In my head it’s either going to be thousands or a fine & criminal conviction. I am praying for an out of court settlement and would be grateful for that.
