Dont agree with this idea at all, isnt fair for people in the South to have to pay even more money to fly from their local airport or have to travel even further.

The problem is every airline wants Heathrow, because their "mates are there" and that is where the most revenue lies.

If more national carriers and long haul airlines had been persuaded to move some operations to Stansted (BA would have been the best) when it opened (instead of the budget airlines coming in cheap), and a true hub was created, then Heathrow may have been relieved immensely.

It could have been an en-mass movment of all One World carriers from LHR to STN, but it's just too far to get to, and too hard to move between airports around London.

Hence why I'm of the opinion that the LHR branch of HS2 should run to LGW via LHR, potentially connecting with EWR for LTN and STN...

And the Staines link and connection via the Colnbrook branch, allowing direct Reading-Heathrow-Gatwick-Brighton services by XC. Failing that, rebuild Iver, connect it up via a light rail link and run XC via Iver, Kenny O and Gatwick to Brighton.

Heathrow does drive me mad. It may be big, but it's still tricky to access (if you don't want to pay through the nose). It's also laid out badly and is generally unpleasant inside, and you can't find a decent place to eat. If the other airports want to change their landing fees to attract more flights, then good, I hope that the major airlines as well as the low-costers decide to spread their investment a little bit.

I know that's not quite how it works, but hopefully competition should bring something like this about.
