Average cost of new multiple units

Hello, I was wondering today how much roughly it would cost for a unit such as a 4 car class 378. I was thinking about 1.2 million per car so maybe 3.6 to 4.8 million per unit? Thanks in advance!

The TOC's don't own their units however the cost of a class 172 is approximately £1.1m per coach

Didn't Roger Ford state that it was around £1.5m per carriage with cab and £1.2m for normal carriage. However overall cost will depend on train length, with 4, 5, 8, 10 & 12 cars either on order or about to be ordered which with affect average cost.

Yeah it varies a bit with train length, the more carriages the cheaper the average per carriage as your averaging out the one off equipment like cabs and control systems. But the main thing affecting it is the size of the order, you may get upto a third more bang for your buck if your ordering hundreds of carriages rather than a couple of dozen.

It's also not exactly fair to say that carriages with cabs cost more, especially when some political idiots will use this as ammunition for UTO (Driverless Trains) without realising that the 'cab equipment' still needs to be there, so the cost will remain the same or very similar weather there is a physical cab or not...
