Using Train split, cant seem to be able to get SP as a result. Just Std and First.

Is it an upgrade on the train only affair please?

Trainsplit can come up with it and sometimes does. However it just shows as a Standard ticket so it is hard to force it to come up.

It isn't offered at all if the train is a Voyager, though - is it?

They're doing Voyager to Central, argh!
Fortunately only some of the services which go via Birmingham are Voyagers, and they are not currently in the timetable. The more direct services through the Trent valley are all Pendolinos.

When the services run via Birmingham they often show up as lower in price, but they take more than an hour longer, so unless price is a primary consideration should be avoided anyway.

Why not book on Avanti's site? If you aren't wanting a split, this will allow you to book SP. The Avanti site is poor, but it should be able to handle a through booking. If the seat selector is presently absent and you want a table for two, just keep adding bookings to the basket until you get those seats then delete the other ones.

Avanti now has a seat selector and I used it when I booked SP both for February and more recently for April.

My Dad has gone into his account and it says no seats available.

My experience of SP was that there were very few people in it; maybe its very popular now?

If you're looking at one specific train on one specific day, then it could be fully booked. Last time I used SP it was quiet, but that may have been because it was a quiet service overall.

It would seem so.

Its lunchtime trains 22nd and 25th. I could imagine the Friday one but thought maybe the Monday one would be ok.

Well they get the buggie up the platform so maybe they will be able to wangle something, get first dibs on no-shows etc.

They used to go First class but the price has gone mental, over £500 now. They won't pay that for what it is.

April presumably, as in Friday 22/4 and Monday 25/4. I agree with you that the former is likely to be busy now. I won't pay First Class any more because it seems worse than it used to be for more money.

I can see Standard Premium Advance Single fares for every departure London-Glasgow on 22 April, for £142.60 undiscounted around mid-day. Using the Avanti Web site. Lower prices early/late.

It does handle splits, but it doesn't like through trains though.
Just an example I've found: Bolton - Haymarket (change at Preston 13.53) no SP tickets. 13.53 Preston-Haymarket - SP tickets available.
I tried this months ago, Hither Green - Man Picc, no dice. It's worth paying £1.90 extra or whatever for one ticket in case of delays as we all know what happens at the Euston gateline.
OK the price is the same for cash/card, but it's nice to have a reservation in case it's rammed.

Yeah I wouldn’t do splits with my parents, I was just looking for a site that would display SP tickets

Inclusive prebookable SP tickets are Advances and are not available for connections. Walk-up tickets have to be bought as Standard and upgraded on board if there is space.

Nothing on the 11:30 or 12:30 outward. They are on the 12:30, I imagine they then booked returns so that’s why it’s not showing up on their account for the return leg (12:40) which is currently showing SP

But if they're booking open tickets and not advance tickets, as Bletchleyite says, and as my example shows, then SP is not an option.

It wasn’t there five minutes ago

When I say that the entire SP column wasn’t there. Anyway as you guys say they have a return so it’s irrelevant

What is the reason for this, or is it just Avanti's booking system?
If you book online it would allocate you a seat for an open so that's not the issue.

TrainSplit doesn't really have first-class (please pardon the pun) support for Standard Premium.

This is mostly a journey planner limitation (the industry data is a bodge too though) and to work around it would be rather painful...
