Am I right in thinking the upgrade fee for Edinburgh-Oxenholme is £20?

The ticket I'm looking at is £22 more expensive in SP, so I may as well pay on-board?

£20 yes (they're on brfares.com under Standard Singles).

Only risk is that it's full.

If you know for sure that you would want to travel in Avanti's Standard Premium class, you can also upgrade your ticket in advance according to their website, which might even get you a secured seat there as well.
