Why is every train since the pendelino refurb baking? It wasn’t like this before the refurb. It must be 23+ degrees on this train at 8am!

Wasn't this the case pre-refurb too?
It does put me off using Avanti, I find it uncomfortable and when the 730/2 are introduced and see of the last of the 350/2, I'll probably make more of an effort to switch to LNWR where possible.
I'm sure even back in VT days, the Wi-Fi log in page had a survey on train temperature.

The AC can be set on a per-carriage basis. It is normally best to ask the Train Manager when they go through the train. Normally, though, I am asking them to reset the breaker for the plug sockets

It's normally the whole train though, who at Avanti thinks the current default temperature is acceptable?
If the name of the company is anything to go by, the person responsible is probably used to Mediterranean temperatures. A former boss of mine (who conformed to most Italian stereotypes) would come in to the office and set the thermostat to 29C...
That’s unusual, in my experience during winter anyway you regularly seem to get the odd freezing coach cos all the heating elements behind the grills have been isolated in that particular coach. Sounds like there’s some problem with them .

Are there any heating elements or are those grilles over ducts for the HVAC?
The survey is still there! I filled it out saying it was too warm just last week.

I had this on 390123 on Monday from Manchester Piccadilly, I was sat in coach G initially and wondered why there was handful of people in that coach. It felt far warmer than it should’ve done. I then moved to coach U, much cooler! So it was possibly a HVAC fault on that coach causing the problem, and the train manager helpfully announced that some coaches may feel warmer than others.
Glad I didn’t stay in G in the end as we ended up being delayed by an hour!

I've been on several Avanti 390s recently but I've only been in coach K. It has always been pleasantly cool (I would happily live in a fridge), so it's definitely not all coaches

On an 805 on Saturday, and the temperature was fine. Back on a 390 on Sunday, and it definitely felt a bit stuffy and a couple of degrees too warm.
Earlier this year, me and my wife travelled down to Euston and we both got off the 390 feeling a little rough and had to sit down outside for 10 minutes to perk up... Only thing I can put it down to was the stuffy temperature on the train.

As I barely have any heating on at home, and instead wear lots of layers, I find most train and other indoor public space temperatures too warm, and I would agree that 390s are generally on the high end. Because of this, I generally try and travel on trains with openable windows where possible, so I can regulate the temperature, although these are becoming increasingly rare nowadays.
In my opinion, train HVACs should be set on the lower end of what is considered to be acceptable room temperature (around 18 degrees C), rather than 20+ degrees C, as those that are feeling cool can put more layers on. If you are feeling too warm, you can’t take your skin off!
I have witnessed and took part in many conversations with train staff over train temperatures, with a variety of outcomes. On one such journey on a 390, I challenged a train manager on the carriage temperature, which was clearly well above 21 degrees C, and they didn’t seem to care, which was slightly surprising, seen as I thought one of the duties of on train staff was to take care of customer concerns!

Could it not just be something as simple as a naffed HVAC system due to age? Are we certain the HVAC has been overhauled as part of this refresh? I have been on a couple of Pendo recently where water has been POURING out of the ceiling vents suggesting problems!

Slightly off topic, but I've always noticed (and I've noticed it again today) that the LNER 5-car Azumas always seem to be warmer in hot weather than the 9-car units. I have no idea why this should be, though!

If I was a tinfoil hat man, I'd be wondering if they were trying to sell more cold drinks from the onboard shop!
Back on topic, I haven't noticed the 390s being too warm, and I'm the type of person who prefers cold over heat, so I think it might just be a few trainsets with thermostats on the blink.

If it's 29C outdoors and 23C on the train, that's quite comfortable.
Chasing a specific temperature isn't energy efficient. I did have the aircon on in my bedroom last night though and cooled my bedroom to a temperature lower than I'd heat it to in the winter!

Yeah I noticed that too. I traveled with them in January and it was really hot, and I wasn’t the only passenger to complain of that or come of sweating…
