Avanti Pathing Allowance

I'm due to travel on the follow service, which has been impacted by the temporary Avanti timetable.

I don't mind that the service stops st Crewe but why has the jourmey now been scheduled to arrive 27 minutes later than expected? I believe this is due to "pathing allowance" after Crewe but I don't understand why that would mean the arrival into Euston is much later than when I originally booked to travel from Glasgow Central

Because adding the stop at Crewe costs around 6 minutes (due to the dwell, approach control, deceleration and acceleration). Therefore it is no longer able to run in its booked path, and the next available path involves arriving into Euston considerably later, as you can see.

It's a similar story in the Down direction, with Glasgow fasts now departing Euston at xx10 father than xx30. Rubbish - but that's the only way the Crewe calls can be accommodated.

Follows the flying banana to Euston, I reckon on the day you will get in front and arrive early.

Currently 1 round trip booked for a pair of voyagers so that Manchester crews can keep up their traction knowledge.

Is it not 15 minutes in the Up direction, but least 50 minutes in the Down direction ? (for Birmingham etc connections). I'm sure there are other reasons too why the Crewe stop is needed (Chester/North Wales connections ?).

The pathing should be better however, although I recall when a similar Glasgow/Euston service operated earlier, arriving at Euston early more than once.

Just looking at services to Euston (from Coventry) for Wednesday. The 0930 Avanti departure looks like it sits at Rugby for six minutes, presumably for pathing reasons as well? When you throw in the fact that it stops at all three intermediate stops on the way into town, it now takes 1h19 to get to Euston. The 0904 LNWR service only takes 19 minutes longer and goes via. Northampton. Oh, and it's £27.50, not £85.20! I know @Bletchleyite is a fan of using anyone other than Avanti -- hard to disagree when you look at those times / prices, even if it is only a 'temporary' timetable. When things go back to ~1h journey times on Avanti I may reconsider, but until then it looks like LNWR for me, at least on the southbound leg.

Thanks, according to realtimetrains last week it often arrived at the later time or even later so I won’t get my hopes up. The alternative would be changing on to the earlier service from Glasgow Central although I’d have to rebook. Having said that I can try splitting at Crewe?
