Got an email today from OPC saying they are making their way through the backlog and I'll hear within 28 days.

OPC were asked why many successful candidates disregarded their use a mouse / touchpad rule and instead used a touchscreen device - giving those candidates a clear time advantage in one of the tests. Those who followed OPCs rule, using the specified mouse / touchpad scored lower.
OPC did not respond when asked.
Can you provide the evidence you are quoting, you are encouraging people to go against recommendations. You must now supply the evidence and maybe explain why the opc would recommend something else that worsens the results…personally I’d follow recommendations as I can see no reason why a company would risk the professional body (BPS) investigating and identifying professional standards haven’t been met. Please back up you claim, you are potentially costing peoples careers in the rail if they fail the test following your advice.

As far as I am aware the VSE and SJT do not count towards your two lives because they aren't kept on record. That said, the process is somewhat unclear, and I believe the VSE is part of Avanti's enhanced standards. I think most here would advise you not to risk your current talent pool position, but it's up to you at the end of the day.
I think you are incorrect. If these are used as part of a selection process they would be recorded as required for the TOC to know that their full standards are met. If a company uses them this will count as part of the 2 lives. If a company doesn’t use them ie national standards this will have no impact on these companies.

If OPC responded to the (polite) email, posts like that wouldn't appear. For many years I'd generally considered OPC to be the adult in the room amongst testing providers until this. Now, they are just another SHL.

you sent an email, didn’t get a reply, therefore you are promoting people ignoring advice. Do you have any evidence to support your claim…you stated that those using a mouse did worse. An unanswered email is not proof of a conspiracy.

So I thought too but apparently you have to take the tests again even if you passed them previously because they aren't recorded. I honestly wish the process was a bit clearer with it's standards.

They are recorded with the OPC. Both the RAAT and the VSE were both shown in my history when I logged on to complete the ‘5 tests’

I think it’s to do with how long the tests are valid for, same as the rest of the process. These are an assessment tool and will be valid for a certain length of time (these tools aren’t unique to the rail, although the questions etc will be) and will be the same 2 lives as the rest of the process. If you keep passing it’s not an issue, however 2 fails to the TOCs process/standard and that’s the end of the journey. My mate tried, failed for another TOC twice with the online assessments and can’t apply again. The process is clear…each TOC has its process, it’s either national or enhanced. Either is the same, you get 2 unsuccessful attempts at that TOCs standards, the only bit that’s not known is what is a pass score, the assessment centre, there are a number of these, will know what the scores are for the TOC.

If that's the case then it's somewhat reliving to know that if I apply again with Avanti in future I'll not have to redo the original tests and only the WATV since these ones are on record for me as a pass. Thanks to you both for this very valuable information!

All I’d add is I don’t know how long the online tests are valid for. You’ll need to confirm with Avanti that detail. But good luck
