I have an advance single from Manchester to Chelmsford via Euston on the 9th September

I see Avanti are offering refunds if the revised journey isnt suitable, however by the time this has been announced any alternative routes will be a lot more expensive. Is it possible to apply for a refund now? I bought the tickets via Trans Pennine

Yes, you can get a refund via the Book with Confidence scheme, which can then be applied to a different journey. Check your retailer's website for how to do that.

If your booked train has been cancelled and this will result in a delay of more than an hour, you're entitled to be re-routed via the fastest available itinerary - without paying anything extra.

However, as Manchester to London is 'only' being reduced to 1tph and London to Chelmsford has multiple trains per hour, I doubt this will be the case.

What alternative route do you have in mind?
