Avanti first class catering changes

Just be careful when ordering the toasted teacake. I wonder how many Avanti passengers may have been less observant and suffered the consequences.

I was going to ask what the problem was, not being able to see anything wrong with the Teacakes themselves, until I noticed the label on the small pot..

I wonder if Avanti will run a different menu over the Christmas and New Year period, similar to what LNER does. Hopefully you have a good experience in First Class on your post Christmas journey.

Knowing my luck there will be no catering loaded.

Seriously as it's a 10ish departure I 'm hoping to experience whatever they are knocking out for breakfast followed a little later by the All Day offering.

Random combination in my opinion.

I was wondering if the Bacon Roll was a pre heated one or cooked fresh at Weekends if there's no Chef at Weekends.

The bacon and sausage sandwiches are still properly made rather than reheated, but it might be the case that the fillings are cooked before departure and loaded into warm store.

I've never had a complaint with the Avanti sausage sandwich, though (but if they have switched across the board to the same sausages as I had the other day, I will have more complaints).

Given most businesses have prohibited First Class being claimed on expenses for a number of years now, I doubt it.

Most organisations I've worked for over the past decade have had a policy along the lines of 1st class can be bought when it's more economical than other options. Civil service department I was in being the notable exception as they didn't want the reputational hit presumably. Moat companies I've worked for have had no issue paying for 1st class for senior managers as well.

If its cheaper than Standard Advances sure, bar the Civil Service and certain governmental organisations for the reasons you mentioned.

But an employee actively purchasing full fare First Class tickets isn't going to be recompensed for that if Standard is available and cheaper normally.

Just wondered if anyone had any experience of gaining compensation if there is no catering available in 1st Class ?

I had it for part-journey last year and they let you go down to the Buffet Car flash your ticket and virtually have whatever you wanted gratis. (was better than normal)

In the event this option wasn't offered would they bung you something - ie if it was BA 10.000 Avios

That's what I suspected, given that I'm under the impression there's no Chef onboard at Weekends and Avanti don't offer the Full English Breakfast at Weekends. I'm guessing the Menu has been designed so the Host can quite easily prepare everything on the menu on their own.

That's true. Also Virgin Trains/Avanti used to serve the Full English equivalent on their 221s with no Chef which included Omelette (later substituted with Scrambled Egg) and Black Pudding.

Edit: To clarify that I don't think Avanti's omission of not offering a decent breakfast at Weekends is excusable, particularly considering the huge premiums they're charging for First Class compared to the cost of Standard Premium.

Completely agree with those sentiments - Let's hope LNER don't go down the same road and introduce SP.
