I was able to open an account with Nationwide Building Society. I've been meaning to open an account for a while and this tipped me over the edge. They are going to pay me into this account by BACS.

I've used BACS payments to a European account using the Worldwide bank Number

Glad to hear it - excellent. You are due the money you are owed and it is good to hear you will be able to get it!

An International Bank Account Number, IBAN, while International, is not worldwide, but European. And definitely not applicable to payments into a US account.

You won’t have done. BACS payments can only be sent within the UK. You will have sent a SEPA, SWIFT, or possibly some other type of payment, not a BACS.

A pity that Nationwide does not accept cheque deposits by taking a photo on their app (which many UK banks do accept) otherwise you could have done that.

Just an update for everyone. I got an email from Avanti on March 10th telling me that they were cancelling the cheques and had sent a request for a BACS payment to the relevant department. The cheques arrived last week which was more than 2 months since the email saying they had been sent. There was no post mark so I can't say when they were posted. Got an email this morning saying that they will process my BACS payment by the end of next week. So almost 3 months to get the money from them plus countless phonecalls and emails.
