Yesterday, I went to my local station to enquire about, and book, my forthcoming trip to Scotland in June. In particular, I wanted to upgrade to Standard Premium for both outward and return journey's . I had previously been assured I could book SP at the station.
However, having provided the times, I was then advised SP booking was not showing on their screens. Consequently, I was booked onto Coach F seat 58 outward, and seat 70 for the return. I had requested a window seat, fwd facing, both ways. It would appear these seats have limited / restricted view which is not what I want, or asked for.
This morning, I contacted Avanti customer services to try and upgrade and amend my seating to SP. I was advised this was not possible over the phone, but, get on board, then upgrade..if seats are available.
Now to me, this is pretty poor service. Promoting a product which is not, it seems, readily accessible, isn't conducive to customers expectations or requirements plus, asking for a seat with a clear view, shouldn't have been that difficult for the station staff to have achieved.
Consequently, it now appears I will have to take a chance on SP seats being available and, other window seats in Coach F, or elsewhere, being available if not.
