For the past few days, there's been a DMU shortage over at Abellio Greater Anglia, as a result of wheel flats caused by adverse weather and poor rail conditions.

Currently, it's believed that 10 of the 26 diesel units (Class 153/156/170 stock) have been out of service, receiving maintenance for the wheels. This work is undertaken at both at the Abellio Ilford depot as well as away at other wheel lathes further afield. When you consider that anything up to 22 units are needed (mainly peak times, plus the Short Set which is out) there really isn't much flexibility.

Although Abellio Greater Anglia have decided to resume Yarmouth/Sudbury/Felixstowe branch services on Monday, there isn't enough stock to run the Ipswich/Peterborough corridor (so services are cancelled and passengers must catch Ipswich/Cambridge trains to connect into Cross Country services (Cambridge-Ely-March-Manea-Whittlesea-Peterborough). This is understandable, and I feel as though Abellio are doing an excellent job of informing/advising passengers and keeping as many services running as possible despite this issue.
