Automated Announcements at Andover

Hi!

In two hours, ill be going filming at Andover station. BUT I will also be recording automated announcements from the lovely Celia Drummond. So to make it easier to prepare for announcements, does Andover have chimes in its announcements?

I know you've not mentioned your reasons, but do bear in mind these sounds are copyrighted, etc etc

And? It still doesn't mean you have permission to do so. You wouldn't be allowed to take a photo from my website and then upload it to a free sharing site without my permission.

The bottom line is that whilst these sounds are copyright to the original voice-over artist, nobody will get angry with you UNLESS you are trying to make money from them e.g. selling recordings of "Announcements at Victoria station" as some royalty free sound websites do.

Obviously with your photographic website, you would have the full right to demand the photos were withdrawn in the same way the voice-over artists would for these sound recordings. However, I've yet to hear of any incidents regarding this, except for the CrossCity route for BVE which was solved with a simple copyright message in the readme.

Going back to the original query, although it's a bit late now, but Andover does not have chimes as far as I know.

What I'm saying is that whilst the companies/artists have a right to demand these sound recordings be removed as they own the copyright, there is no real precedent of this happening except for the CrossCity example which was resolved easily anyway. If I recall correctly, Phil Sayer mentioned on another forum that whilst he owns the copyright to a lot of the recordings, he wasn't going to ask for them to be removed providing they weren't being sold.

I think you've taken my initial post as too brutish, how it was meant to read is, it's courteous to ask the copyright holder before you make the recordings, rather than them find out that you have made and are sharing them. They most likely won't have a problem, but it's the decent thing to ask first, is what I was saying.

I don't know - for personal use there should be no need for permission. Unless they fit the PA speakers with "recorder detection devices", there is no way of them knowing. But for publishing on a website like Freesound, then yes it would be better to ask, and I think if it was that easy we would!

Ditra Systems as an individual company doesn't really exist; the company has all but vanished into the Ketech Group, with a (quite possibly outsourced) customer services department who will bin your email.

The email address on Celia Drummond's website bounces, so short of contacting her via Facebook which would be rather rude, there's no way of getting in touch with her either.

The other reason for not contacting any of the involved parties is that they may well request that the files are removed! Safer to not know.

And this is where an otherwise credible post falls down, it is their right to request the files are removed. Not asking the question because you don't want to hear the possible answer you don't want is just plain ignorant.

I had a similar scenario with a ticketless man travelling from hostel to provided accomodation. I spoke to him, and explained that I was happy for him to travel but that he should have asked before travelling. He said that he didn't ask because he didn't want me to say no, but I explained that it is my place to say yes or no. He continued to argue the toss, to the point I retrtacted my discretion and asked him to leave at the next station.

They're quite welcome to request for them to be removed. In fact if they did request removal of files, at least we'd get some form of contact details!

mumrar: To be honest, surely all the train liveries and logos in all your photos are copyrighted too. As long as the recordings are not being sold for profit then there should be no issue with it.
